Nick: From DSO stage 2 you will unfortunately only have 14kW on MuxA, 3kW on Mux ArqA (changes mode to 8k), and 2.2kW on Mux ArqB (changes mode to 8k). Mux ArqB changes frequency on 16th November 2011 but remains at 2.2kW. This situation continues until 27th June 2012 when all three COM muxes change to high power working on their intended post DSO frequencies. SDN changes to 8k mode on that date.

lisa: There is a significant power increase to 100kW on the PSB muxes only at DSO. The COM muxes switch to high power working on 27th June 2012. Due to the mode change on Mux Arqa and Mux ArqB some viewers might experience a deterioration in reception on these two muxes despite a small power increase on 20th July 2011.

Howard Moore: Mux ArqB from Winter Hill is transmitted on C55 and is currently subject to a power restriction to protect MuxD from Sutton Coldfield which is co-channel. The good news is that on 21st September 2011 the power of this mux at Winter Hill will be raised to the same level as the other muxes. Your present problems with Mux ArqB could be caused by the Sutton Coldfield signal blocking reception from Winter Hill. It could also be single frequency interference from another source or deterioration in the condition of the aerial/faulty cable or connectors which causes the weakest signal to drop out first. Regarding C62, single frequency interference or aerial problems could also apply, but in addition (ironically) if you have any amplification on the aerial too much signal can also cause freezing or "No signal" messages.

Craigkelly (Fife, Scotland) transmitter

John: It is likely that your signal is now too strong. The Digital UK postcode checker gives near perfect reception from Craigkelly, Black Hill and Angus at your location. If you have any amplifiers on the aerial remove them. If not, try inserting an attenuator in the aerial feed.

Film 4
Friday 17 June 2011 8:54PM

Harry Pollard: Mux ArqB which carries Film4 is currently using C67, which is shown as no reception at your location. You are expected to get this mux back from 14th September 2011 when the frequency changes to C48. You will then temporarily lose MuxC (Sky News etc) from this date until 23rd November 2011. The Digital UK postcode checker shows the reception of the COM muxes from Sandy Heath deteriorating somewhat in 2012. If this proves to be a problem good reception of the COM muxes should, by then be available from the Oxford transmitter.

G Roger Howe: The Derby relay which transmits from the FSHQ mast in Littleover village radiates towards Allestree, Chester Green and Chaddesden. Viewers with aerials set for Sutton Coldfield should find analogue BBC East Midlands on C48. This will become digital (still using C48) from DSO step2 at Waltham on 31st August 2011. Viewers in other parts of Derby would need to receive an East Midlands signal from Waltham, Kimberley (already digital only) or Little Eaton, which is analogue only until 17th August 2011.

S Arthurs: Yes, if the tvs are equipped with scart sockets simply connect up using a scart lead. If the only means of connection is via the aerial socket, however, a freesat box would need to be connected to an RF modulator to supply an analogue UHF signal to the tv (or connected to the scart socket of a VCR which would modulate the signal). Alternatively use a Sky box (which has a built in modulator) without a subscription , to watch free to air channels.

Michael Hunter: The transmitter power on C45 is identical to that used on C39+ and C42. It is possible that filtering arrangements on the aerial need to be adjusted to accommodate C45, all the other frequencies were in use before switchover. Check with the other tenants that they too have poor reception on C45, if they do, then request the landlord or building management company to arrange for the aerial to be adjusted. If the other tenants receive the frequency ok you would need to check out single frequency interference, making sure no equipment such as a VCR or Sky box has the RF modulator set around C45.

Stuart O.: A lot depends on the individual manufacturer. There was a time when an 18 element aerial meant 16 director rods, a dipole and a reflector assembly which could have been a single sheet of metal (as on a contract aerial) or set of two or four rods positioned behind the dipole. Today, a Blake DMX10 has ten X-type directors plus a single rod in front of the dipole and a reflector assembly with eight rods. A Triax Unix52 is a similar aerial but each 'X' director counts four elements and the reflector counts as eight elements, to arrive at the magic "52".

Alan: The COM muxes changed frequency and increased power on 15th June 2011. Do a factory reset to clear the channel list then rescan for channels.
