Below are all of KMJ, Derby's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.Brenda Williams:It might be worth waiting until 20th april 2011 when switchover takes place at Ridge Hill (all muxes) and The Wrekin (PSB muxes initially). Being situated in the overpap area of several transmitters you are not well placed to receive a full set of muxes from the current low power Freeview transmitters. Try on this date to check your reception over the various transmitters. If you still cannot receive all the muxes it will be the Sutton Coldfield switchover in September which will give you another set of high power signals to check plus the Kidderminster relay also switches over at this time, but only on the 3 PSB muxes.

I think the change of feed to Lincoln central is simply to make the BBC region the same as the ITV1 region for switchover. This has happened at a number of relay sites where traditionally the BBC feed was from a different transmitter/region to that of ITV1. Lincoln (and Skegness) have always been covered by BBC East Midlands news and BBC Radio Lincolnshire part of the East Midland local radio network. The service from Belmont (which can be received in Derby) has a heavy emphasis on Humberside which is a large part of the Belmont coverage area but may not suit viewers who have more of an affinity with the East Midlands.

Brian: Was there any reference to Black Hill using C40 instead of C50 in the documents?

John:It could be that the signals from Stockland Hill which is co-channel with Pontypool are blocking reception of the signals from Wales. The Digital UK postcode checker shows good reception for Stockland Hill at your location on the PSB1 and PSB2 muxes. A weak signal from Wenvoe might be available, a good quality group B aerial would give the best chance of receiving this.

Tony Jarvis: If test transmissions are carried out it is normally during the night and no decodable data is transmitted to avoid confusing receivers with an automatic channel updating facility. If your reception is intermittant it is likely that the current low power signals are hovering around the "digital cliff" and disappear at the slightest drop in signal strength or burst of interference. I would expect that you are missing Mux2 and MuxC due to the higher frequencies in use being out of group on your aerial. The best aerial to use for Sudbury is one for group E both before and after switchover. The alternative transmitter for your location is Crystal Palace. Group A receiving aerials should be used for that transmitter.

Jane: The Digital UK postcode checker does not currently show any reception for Sutton Coldfield at your location so propagation must be better than expected if you normally have good reception. It is worth noting that after switchover the COM muxes from Sutton Coldfield will be co-channel with Moel Y Parc and reception of the PSB muxes is shown as becoming poor in 2012. The Wrekin is shown as giving good reception on the PSB muxes from 20th April 2011 and all muxes from 28th September 2011. Fenton is predicted as giving good reception on all muxes from 21st September 2011, although if you are unable to receive the analogue services at present it would suggest that this is over optimistic! You might find that any aerial installed now might need re-directing in the future.

Jane: Using the postcode ST3 5TJ rather than the one in the links gives a prediction of good reception on all muxes for The Wrekin from 20th april 2011

Grumps: An additional aerial dedicated to Lichfield might be needed. Use a group A for best pick-up of C34. This can be linked to the Sutton Coldfield aerial with a group A+E diplexer. It is worth checking that there are no nearby VCRs or Sky boxes with the RF modulator set around C33 to C35.

ian, notts and Ian: The situation with reception from an out of area transmitter will for most be no local tv service, or for some the wrong local news as currently exists for viewers unable to receive the correct variant of BBC1. Remember that Mux NEW7 is only a low power service aimed at specific densly populated areas. Some relays are also planned (provisionally) to transmit this Mux in addition to the 3 PSB muxes. It will be interesting to see which areas will be served by transmitters such as Waltham which are in the middle of nowhere. A service aimed only at Nottingham or one which includes Derby and Leicester with coverage similar to the existing low power Freeview service?

Mick: Freeview HD is not yet available in most of Derby because the only HD transmitter in this area is Lichfield on C34. Unfortunately this frequency is also used by analogue Channel Five from Kimberley. The situation may well change on 13th April 2011 when analogue signals from Kimberley are switched off, removing the interference from the Lichfield signal if you currently receive Freeview from Sutton Coldfield. Additionally Freeview HD begins from Kimberley on this date for viewers able to receive it. If your aerial is set on Waltham the HD service begins on 31st August 2011.
