Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter

Dr Tim Searle: Clear the channel list, then do a manual tune on the Emley Moor channels. At present, because the BBC mux from Sheffield has identical content to that of Emley Moor, it is possible that the box just sees that it has already stored the channels so overlooks identical alternatives.

Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter

Bill Mackintosh: ITV3 is carried on the SDN mux, which is transmitted on C51 from Emley Moor. It is possible that a weak signal on C42 from Idle has been found first when scanning and a set of unusable channels stored for SDN. Clear the channel list, then do a manual tune for the Emley Moor frequencies to store a set of working channels. If the box or TV does not have a manual tune option the alternative method of storing working frequencies is to temporarily insert an attenuator in the aerial feed for the duration of the scan. With a bit of luck the strength of the unwanted weak signals is reduced sufficiently for them to be overlooked, resulting in just the required stronger Emley Moor signals being found.

John Dusconi: DSO stage2 took place in the West Midlands on 21st September 2011. Do a factory reset on your Freeview box and scan for channels or retune to the new frequencies manually. You do not say whether you were receiving Freeview from Sutton Coldfield previously, or whether you started to receive it for the first time from the Kidderminster relay on 7th September. Doing a retune should restore your reception. If you used to have all muxes from S/C but still cannot receive anything after rescanning check that the box is not on the list of equipment that does not support the 8k mode.

peter williams: Have you checked in the 800s of the channel list for a BBC1 showing East Midlands news? Since the transmitter power has increased at DSO in the West Midlands there is now a large overlap of coverage with the East Midlands, and as Sutton Coldfield (and The Wrekin) channels are found first when retuning, these are often placed in the "normal" positions in the channel list and the Waltham channels are then treated as alternatives and placed in the 800s.

Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter

Martin: You are predicted to be able to receive Freeview HD at the present time, as long as your aerial is pointing to Emley Moor (SSW at 195 degrees) and you have a Freeview HD box or IDTV capable of supporting DVB-T2 signals. The date for HD transmissions beginning from Bilsdale is 26th September 2012.

john barker: You don't say what aerial you are using. If it is pointing at the Leek relay (set for vertical polarisation, at 26 degrees/ NNE) you will only receive the PSB muxes as this is a Freeview Lite transmitter. On the other hand the Digital UK postcode checker predicts that with an aerial on Winter Hill you should have reasonably good reception on all six muxes. Aerial set for horizontal polarisation and pointing NNW at 333 degrees for Winter Hill. Sutton Coldfield is shown as currently giving poor reception on SDN and ArqA, but good reception on ArqB and the PSB muxes. Aerial set for horizontal polarisation and pointing SSE at 165 degrees for Sutton Coldfield. Predicted reception is of course dependent on there being no local obstructions such as trees or tall buildings in the signal path.

Iain: You are predicted to have good reception on all six muxes from Sutton Coldfield at present, but this deteriorates to variable for the COM muxes in late 2012. Winter Hill currently gives good reception on the HD mux and ArqB, this improves in late 2012 to give (reasonably) good reception on all six muxes.

The Wrekin (Telford and Wrekin, England) transmitter
Wednesday 28 September 2011 7:04PM

Martin Davies; MuxA/SDN is now on C41+. You will need a wideband, or better still a group K aerial to receive the COM muxes on their new frequencies in addition to the PSB muxes that you can already receive on a group A aerial.

Film 4
Friday 30 September 2011 6:23PM

trish leafe: If you are using the Sheffield/Crosspool transmitter the frequency for Mux ArqB, which carries Film4, was changed to C39 on Tuesday 27th September 2011. You will therefore need to do a retune to restore reception of Film4, after first clearing the channel list to remove all memory of the old frequency.
