Ian: The aerial is most likely to be pointing at Crystal Palace (SE). If it points NNE it will be pointing at Sandy Heath which at this time delivers the best signal on five of the muxes. After DSO in London which takes place on 4th and 18th April 2012 your best signal is predicted to be from Crystal Palace, which will transmit at 200kW on each mux. The Hemel Heampstead (2kW) relay is shown as variable on the PSB muxes after switchover, possibly due to interference resulting from sharing frequencies with Hannington COM muxes.

Matt: The current analogue and 20kw digital transmitters at Crystal Palace will be replaced with brand new 200kW digital transmitters. Mux BBCA enters service on 4th April 2012 with all the standard definition BBC tv and BBC national radio services. The remaining high power digital transmitters enter service on 18th April 2012. From this date you are predicted to have good reception on all muxes and excellent reception on the HD services!

Conditions are excellent for FM Dxing this morning. Sunshine 106.2 received loud and clear in Derby on my mobile phone radio!

Phil: C62 problems could be due to interference from a VCR or Sky box with the RF modulator set around C62/C63, or maybe an out of area transmission travelling further than normal due to the inversion effect during the current weather conditions. It is worth checking that cables and connectors are all in good order, and try repositioning aerial leads and any HDMI cables relative to the Freeview box. C50 is currently at 1kW, this will increase in power to 10kW on 25th April 2012. Later this year, in October, SDN will change frequency to C54 (and D3+4 to C56).This is for 4G clearance of C61/C62.

John Clemence: Many viewers in Worthing might find that they can continue to receive BBC South via the Findon relay which is transmitting digital services with a power of 2kW. This covers a much larger area than the former analogue transmitter. In many cases an aerial pointing at Whitehawk Hill would receive the Findon signal as both transmitters use vertical polarisation, otherwise a second aerial diplexed onto the downlead would be required. Regarding Virgin Media, it would be a simple matter to offer both regions, however being a national company it is very difficult to persuade them to offer locally orientated services.

Digital switch-over problems | Switchovers
Thursday 15 March 2012 11:57AM

Martin Child: Yes, that would be the best thing to try. It is possible that your Sky box is set around C50, which was a clear frequency in the Midhurst area before switchover, but is now used for ArqB. When choosing a new frequency avoid C54 and C56 as these are assigned to Midhurst from October 2012.

Margaret Carney: The problem is interference caused by signals travelling further than normal due to the inversion effect during the present weather conditions. This is made more likely on Mux ArqA by the use of a temporary frequency at low power (3kW) at the Sudbury transmitter. In June 2012 the frequency will be changed and power increased to 100kW which should help reduce problems from out of area signals at your location.

Annie B: Further to jB38's post, are both receivers tuned to the same transmitter? Have a look through the channel list of the lounge TV. If there are any channels listed in the 800's it will show that more than one transmitter is being received, these additional channels could give better reception. I say this because both Oxford and Sandy Heath transmitters are predicted to be receivable at your location.

Mike Tidy: It is possible that weak signals from Rowridge and/or Hannington are detected during the scan and channels stored which are not strong enough to view. After doing the reset procedure, start the scan with the aerial unplugged. Plug it back in about C48 so that only Midhurst frequencies are scanned.

Indoor aerials | Installing
Friday 16 March 2012 9:06PM

Paul: You will need to connect a satellite receiver to the Sky dish in order to supply the TV with a suitable source to display TV programmes. Otherwise an outdoor aerial will need to be connected to the TV to enable Freeview reception via the set's internal tuner.
