Roger Wright: Sadly, the Ondigital boxes do not support the 8k mode (as used from today with DSO stage 1 on Mux BBCA), so in two weeks time will not pick up any channels at all from Crystal Palace.

brian english: That is correct, as Mux BBCA after switchover contains all the BBC standard definition TV and radio channels. These were divided between Mux1 (now switched off) and MuxB which has to remain on air as it carries Sky Sports on the pre-switchover configuration of the muxes. When using auto scan Mux BBCA on C23 or C44 will usually be placed in the normal (LCN) positions in the channel list as it is found before MuxB on C28 or C59, the BBC channels in MuxB will then appear as variations in the 800's. If doing a manual tune between the two stages of the switchover it is usual to omit MuxB unless Sky Sports is required.

Philip Wylie: No reduction in power, just a noticeable difference between the new Mux BBCA at 200kw, the un-switched standard definition muxes at 20kW and the current low power HD mux at 10kW. You should see a considerable improvement from 18th April 2012, when all muxes are planned to be transmitting at 200kW.

trevor: Since 4th April 2012 analogue ITV1 from Crystal Palace is transmitted on C33 instead of BBC2. Digital Mux BBCA is transmitted on C23 instead of analogue ITV1. This means that your analogue TV now has ITV1 on button 2 and nothing on button 3.

Idris: Further to the comments from jb38; the main problem for reception of the COM muxes from Rowridge will be interference from Stockland Hill, which uses the same frequencies. Stockland Hill uses horizontal polarisation, so using vertical polarisation for Rowridge as well as careful aerial positioning so as to null out Stockland, if there is an unwanted signal from there, might be necessary.

Peter: Try changing the position of the HDMI cable relative to the receiver, as sometimes poor screening allows interference from the HDMI cable to block reception of some frequencies.

Jules: If the version of your recorder is fitted with both Freeview and analogue tuners, make sure that you do not select the analogue channel which no longer receives BBC2. Also, did you clear the channel list before doing a scan for channels? Is there a BBC2 in the 800's of the channel list? It might be worth doing a complete scan with the aerial unplugged, so that "no channels" are found, then do a scan with the aerial plugged in. This apparently solves the problem of the receiver failing to see certain channels when scanning.

roger C: At present the local news is not available on BBC HD and in many areas the wrong region is received on ITV1 HD. No doubt eventually the local news will be in HD for all regions on BBC and ITV, but at the present time when the emphasis is on cost cutting there is no hurry to incur the additional expense of making local news in HD, especially as extra capacity on satellite would be necessary if the service was to be available on all platforms. Note that at present only London and Granada are available on Freesat, with Meridian Maidstone additionally being in HD on Sky/FSFS.

trevorjharris: The trouble with Sky (and Freesat) is the channels that are automatically tuned in are only the ones that they want you to have. There are others available that have to be added manually if required. Automatic updating was incorporated into some Freeview receivers, but in practice this is more trouble than it is worth, with other regions or continental channels replacing the required selection in the channel list when weather conditions produce the inversion effect! I'm not sure whether the latest Freeview boxes, that require a preferred region to be entered, will automatically add channels or update the frequencies when these are changed.

Emma: Could you give more information about the area in which you are having reception problems, preferably with a postcode?- so a check can be made of predicted reception after which more specific advice can be given.
