cassandra: Engineering work was taking place during the early hours of today, 30 May 2012. Try doing a re-tune when transmissions are back in service, due 6am. Note that 31 May 2012 is also on the list for work between 1am and 6am. Pontop Pike transmitter.

Stu: You need to wait two weeks for DSO stage 2 to take place on 13th June 2012. If your aerial is pointing to the Newhaven relay you will then be able to receive Mux D3+4 (ITV1, ITV2, C4, C5, More4, E4, ITV1+1 and C4+1. The HD channels will also be available if you have a DVB-T2 receiver. The COM muxes will only available if you have a signal from a full service transmitter, as the Newhaven relay is a PSB only transmitter.

GerryCW: The BBC status report for Radio 3 FM from Whitehawk Hill shows various breaks in transmission yesterday morning, so presumably someone is aware that there was/is a problem.

Nigel Vickers: It might be worth checking that the ITV1 stored by your receiver is actually from Midhurst (C61), and not Hannington (C42) or Crystal Palace (C26). If it does turn out that the Midhurst frequency has been found and correctly stored it may be that trees in leaf are partially obstructing the signal path and causing disruption to your reception. The frequency of Mux D3+4 changes to C56 in October, which might give an improvement to your reception.

Sarah C: When your receiver scans for channels the first version of Pick TV that is found (probably Crystal Palace) will be placed at position 11 in the channel list. When Bluebell Hill is found later in the scan, because BH is still in 2k mode it is treated as a variation, so is placed in the 800s, in the next available slot. The actual position will depend on how many "alternative" channels have been found during the scan prior to the BH frequency being reached. Once switchover has been completed and all standard definition transmissions are in 8k mode (27th June 2012 in your area) it will be usual for only one version of Pick TV to be stored at position 11, depending on the spec of the tuner this will be either the first version found, or the strongest version of all those that are available. From this date you will probably see a vast reduction of channels in the 800s with only genuine regional variations from the PSB muxes being stored, possibly for London, Meridian and Anglia, depending on the signals available.

Dave: On 27th June 2012 the new 100kW high power transmitters are launched at Sudbury on C60- for Mux ArqA and C56 for Mux ArqB. Your channels are missing at present because these two muxes are using temporary frequencies at very low power until the new frequencies become available following DSO in the Meridian region.

Laura: You are predicted to have excellent reception on all six muxes from the Beacon Hill transmitter with an aerial pointing NW and set for horizontal polarisation. If you are, by any chance, using Stockland Hill the COM muxes are predicted as offering variable reception. The Brixham relay only transmits the PSB muxes, so if your aerial is set for vertical polarisation and points North you will have a poor chance of reliable reception from either Beacon Hill or Stockland Hill on the COM muxes! Check that the correct frequencies have been stored for the transmitter that your aerial is pointing to. Remember that any prediction of good reception is subject to there being no local obstructions such as trees or tall buildings blocking the signal path.

Sarah C: Bluebell Hill will transmit at 20kw on each mux, up from 3kw-4kW currently. This is quite a generous increase, as using the usual calculation to cover the existing analogue service area it would require 6kW.

Sarah C: Sorry Sarah, I wasn't trying to bamboozle you with figures, just showing that the signal will be stronger after switchover. As a general rule, if you enjoy reliable analogue reception before switchover in most cases you will have good Freeview reception after switchover.

Sarah C: Unfortunately it is only the BBC channels that will go to full power (and change frequency) on 13th June 2012. The remaining muxes, including Pick TV, will go to full power on 27th June 2012.
