Dr Bryan Roe: Good - easy to use and reasonably priced. And of course the most recent versions of Panasonic/Humax PVR's will have Freeview Play (go back on the guide 7 days), plus extra tuners and wifi.

A good thing about buying a decent TV from a decent brand is the growing room. I dont expect the smart features to last forever (my 6 year old Ipod Touch's apps often started to go a couple of years after I got it), or even the Freeview tuner, but with a decent picture and a fair number of HDMI's, you can just upgrade for years.

MikeP: Actually, its almost certainly that the BBC has stopped support for that particular version of Iplayer, on that particular platform, which is also probably no longer supported or updated by Panasonic.

Thats not unusual - think of the new software that would no longer work with Windows XP, etc, and the BBC explain it all here: BBC iPlayer Help - Samsung, Goodmans, Apple, etc. The Samsung's seem to drop off if they are from 2010/2011, and thats no surprise.

As the BBC advice puts it: 'You'll still be able to use your existing TV for iPlayer as long as you adapt it with a set-top box or a streaming device', and thats exactly what Brian's done.

Rita Lee: look at the top of the page - the transmitter doesn't seem to have any problems.

So if you ask your neighbours, and they dont have a problem, then its you. Check your cables, and it still doesn't cure the problem, then you need to call a professional.

Graham Drinkell: i've just said what I'm going to say to you - check your cables. If they are Ok, then you need to call a professional, because if its not the transmitter, its your system.

Who is still watching TV?

Ben: Nothing is free, hence the reason why you can fast forward through the ads on ITV or C4 catchup. Ads pay for the programme, whether it be a live, recorded or streaming programme,

It is, of course, one of the reasons why the BBC is so popular - no ads. And its not something you need in the middle of Blue Planet II.

clive Sinclair: Look at the links below for which direction Sandy heath is in - its pretty much south if your in Peterborough.

Your aerial could be pointing at Waltham (mine is), so check that your tuned to the right transmitter. And if the signal levels are very low (actually check each mux), then its most likely your system - check all cables and connections.

And then there is your aerial. If its falling apart, then your going to get a rubbish signal. Aerials dont last forever, and are the last refuge of the bodger.

The Ortons will be fine for either transmitter, and I have to kill my signal a little, they are certainly close enough.

Freeview reception - all about aerials | Installing
Wednesday 1 November 2017 10:25PM

Neil C: Firstly, having retuned, you've wiped out the original lock, and since there is a high pressure system messing up reception at the moment, its much more difficult to get them back, as you've seen Steve/MikeP say over and over again.

OK, I'm familiar with the area (grew up in the same postcode!), so there are a couple of things to ask, since you can look at the terrain plot for yourself, and see that you should get an excellent signal.

So, firstly, are you using a normal aerial, or some small portable thing? If its the latter, then they are not going to be great.

If your using a normal aerial, are you tuned to the right transmitter? Check which one it is, and whether the aerial is correctly polarised.

Check if the aerial is working properly - ask around - if other residents are having same sort of problems, then its a general problem that can be sorted.

Then check the cables - if needed, replace the aerial cable - they are really cheap.

But if you've just lost the signal for the past day , then its probably the weather.

Bren: I'm on Waltham and its fine. People might have been hit by that high pressure system elsewhere, but now its raining, so if your losing a mux, its almost certainly your system.

'Interference' sounds like the signal degrading - check your cables and connections, starting with the fly lead. After that, follow the signal path back.
