Hi there, many thanks for all the useful information and help provided on this site. My postcode is KT1 2ET and Crystal Palace is my closest transmitter. I have a Hitachi Instavision TV (no scart and at least 27 years old) and have been getting all Freeview channels reasonably satisfactorily via the combination of a Maplin VH89W Universal RF Modulator and Thomson DTI 1000 set top box until the second digital switchover retune for this area yesterday. All channels are now gone. Having tried (without success) the procedure on this site's "My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong" page, is it the end of the line for my beloved ancient TV, or is there anything else that I could try to make it pick up TV channels again via this set up? Any advice or tips would be very gratefully received! Many thanks.

Dear Dave and jb38,
Just wanted to give you an update and ask another (probably very daft!) question following your kind advice to my question of 19/04/12 at 10.18pm.

I bought a new set top box as suggested (Goodmans GDR11) with built in modulator to replace the Thomson and Maplin equipment. Following the usual tuning procedure resulted in only being able to pick up Channel 26/SDN multiplex, so I tried the tip of unplugging the aerial and inserting a piece of wire instead. This did the trick of getting the other multiplexes that I actually wanted (i.e. BBC) added. So the other problem was obviously my close proximity to the Crystal Palace transmitter.

I'm overjoyed that I won't have to part ways with my beloved Hitachi Instavision, but have a question: what do I do now? I assume that the answer will be 'get a set top aerial to replace the piece of wire', but your confirmation would be much appreciated!
