Paul Kelly: The whole point of digital switch-over is that analogue has to be switched OFF in order to allow high-power digital. BBC Two is always the first channel to go, because that was the channel with the least viewing that was available at (nearly) all relays, and of course the BBC have two analogue channels.

Analogue BBC One should still be around on C46, but - along with ITV1 and C4, and C5 from Lichfield - will go on the 21st so that the remaining multiplexes can go high-power.

Pearce: At that postcode, the recommended transmitter is Emley Moor, which is south of Huddersfield - though this is the same direction as Holmfirth.

It's possible that signals from the Belmont transmitter, to your east, are strong enough to be picked up even though the aerial points the other way. Check if there are more reliable versions around channel 800 in the channel list; if so, see Digital Region Overlap.

Wayne: If your box is a TF5800, it's known to have a problem with the larger Network Information Table introduced in 2008.

You should have had an over-the-air update to fix the problem, but some boxes need to be left in standby with the auto-update feature enabled to get the update.

Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter

jb38: PSB3 has not yet started, let alone on full power. Remember that Emley Moor has had a low-power HD service since mid-2010 - it is still running on C39 at 4kW, on a restricted antenna.

At DSO2, on the 21st, the low-power HD service will end and the final HD service (aka PSB3, BBC B) will start up on C41.

Briantist: You should correct the PSB3 display at the top of the page - hasn't yet happened, still on C39 at 4kW.

Dave Bell: Mux A has moved from C43 to C52, taking over Mux 1's old frequency. This is because it clashes with Sutton Coldfield BBC A.

Emley Moor used Sutton Coldfield's analogue channels for low-power digital, and vice versa. That's why both transmitters, and all their relays, have to switch over on the same days. They're certainly not doing it for the engineers' health!

Craig Jones: On the Humax, make sure you do a 'Default Setting' to clear all existing channels before allowing it to auto-retune. Press MENU, go to Installation, enter the password (default is 0000) and select Default Setting.

This will delete the recording schedule and reset all other parameters to defaults as well as deleting the channel list before rescanning from scratch. You will need to restore the 16:9 mode if you have a widescreen TV (MENU > Preferences > A/V Control) and you might need to move the RF output to a different channel if it clashes with something (default is C36).

If that doesn't correct the problem, or that's what you've been doing, delete all the BBC channels - including any duplicates in the 800s - by pressing MENU, selecting Edit Channels, then Edit Channel Lists. Scroll through the list of channels pressing OK to select the ones to delete, then move the highlight to the Delete button and press OK. Press OK again to confirm.

You can then manually retune by pressing MENU, going to Installation, Manual Search. Highlight Channel, press OK, and select 60 from the drop-down list, then press OK. Move the highlight to the Search button and press OK to search that channel. It should list all the BBC channels - select Save to store them.

If it still doesn't work, do the Default Setting and cancel the automatic scan when it starts. Then use Manual Search to scan channels 60, 65, 56, 66 and 62. Don't scan the multiplex on C59, it now only broadcasts duplicates of a few channels on C60, plus Sky Sports 1 and 2 which are encrypted so you can't watch them anyway.

Hopefully on the 21st you will just be able to do an automatic rescan - you should use Default Setting again.

You may find that the box is storing off-beam signals from Ridge Hill or The Wrekin at the normal channel numbers, because they're on lower frequencies than the ones from Brierley Hill, which will be stored in the 800s. In that case, you will need to do a manual retune. (To check, while watching BBC One, press MENU and select Status, Signal Detection, and make a note of the channel number. If it is 26, that's The Wrekin/Bromsgrove/Lark Stoke, while 28 is Ridge Hill.).

Briantist: Magic Eye also relies on signals travelling back up the coaxial cable (reportedly a modulated carrier at 47 MHz). Splitters need to be able to pass those signals back to the Sky box.

I don't quite see why it only works if the bedroom TV is off, though. Perhaps when it is on, the TV is also trying to supply power on the aerial cable, and that throws off the power supply to the Magic Eye receiver?

michelle: See if the TV has an 'aerial power' or 'antenna power' option. If it does, try turning it off.

(Pet peeve: 'Deprecated' means not really supported any more, planned to be phased out. 'Depreciated' means a reduction in value over time.)
