Emma Atkinson :

Hi Emma. The BBC are reporting a fault -
From 1:13pm on 5th Jul 2023 BBC B HD Poor quality due to a fault
It looks as though they've only more recently listed this, but as it is known it'll no doubt get fixed asap.
Do NOT retune.

Clive howell: Brian Groves:

You've both posted on the DAB page rather that the TV transmitter page, however there is a post there with the same problem and the BBC are aware of a fault.
See Whitehawk Hill (Brighton and Hove, England) Full Freeview transmitter | free and easy
Do NOT retune if you are correctly tuned, this can clear your correct tuning if the signal is badly affected at the time.

Julia Chalmers:

Apart from this being an independent technical help-site, even the transmitter owners can't "up the signal", maximum transmitter powers are fixed by various international agreements.

In case you hadn't spotted, the post before yours lists the transmitter as being on Planned Engineering which could be the cause of your problems. However, you are 87km from Rowridge which although predicted to give you better reception than the closer Whitehawk Hill transmitter (even if that is only 4km away), a lot will depend on your precise location and any very local obstructions - trees, other buildings etc.

If you aerial is pointing at Rowridge, for the best reception it should have its rods (or squashed Xs) vertical and pointing at compass bearing 256 degrees that's almost 8 degrees west of WSW.
Do check in your TV Tuning section that you are correctly tuned to Rowridge's UHF channels as noted at the top of the page. If you happened to retune under adverse conditions (low/no signal due to weather, maintenance, interference etc) you might pick up Whitehawk Hill etc.

Do you have a smart TV & Broadband? If so, you may be better watching Wimbledon on iPlayer if signals are variable at present.

Doug:

It sounds like you may have a marginal signal for whatever reason, and your TV may have a slightly more sensitive receiver. That said, there could be a multitude of other reasons.

We need a full postcode to look at your predicted reception and which transmitter(s) you could be getting signals from.
How long has this problem been happening?
Did you change anything (including electrical equipment) around the time this started?

Some details about your aerial, coax etc would be a good idea. External or loft aerial?
How old roughly is the aerial? Is the coax the same age, does it look in good condition or is there any brittleness on the outer sheath?
Do you have any aerial amp/splitters? If so where is it located?

Are any flyleads - the ones that connect aerial socket/point to TV/Box bought out thin ones or are they made up using double-screened coax?
Have you tried swapping such leads or checking the plug connections.

Do you have any HDMI leads running close to the aerial leads?
Have you received a postcard from https://restoretv.uk ?

Look in your TV Tuning section for any figures (things like signal test?) that give the Signal Strength and Quality (or Error figures) for each multiplex's UHF channel, and post the figures for each.

Alan Thompson:

The new (replacement) Bilsdale mast started transmitting TV signals on the 22nd May and the HD services on the 4th June. Work is yet to be completed to fully restore Radio, Mobile and other services.

It was never intended, nor indeed possible to amend the coverage provided by the transmitter. The coverage and transmitter powers are controlled by international agreements. The mast height and antennae are like for like with the old mast. Those areas that are in a "shadow" will remain so, due to the location of the transmitter and the terrain between it and any such given locations.

Parts of Seaham, primarily the coast to the South of Seaham can get good signals from Bilsdale.
Other parts of Seaham can only get signals from the Seaham relay transmitter (PSB multiplexes only) which should give good coverage to the whole Seaham area, and it is technically a relay of the Pontop Pike transmitter which cannot reliably be received in Seaham.

We do need a full postcode to look at your predicted reception from the various transmitters.

Peter Wellings:

Just to note, this is an independent technical help-site, so it's not the transmitter people you are talking to (unfortunately you can't anyway)!
Your are probably receiving the Local multiplex 10C which carries BBC Radio York and probably the BBC National multiplex on 12B which are supposedly transmitted from this transmitter but even the BBC checker suggests this will only be "fair" reception. You might be getting commercial signals from Emley Moor as Bilsdale still hasn't had all Radio & Mobile services restored, which we expect some time soon.
You may also get some commercial stations from Acklam Wold but I can't make other suggestions as mapping for national commercial multiplexes doesn't seem to be working at this moment.
It's probable your best hope is Bilsdale being back on air very soon.

Did I not mention about updates/corrections in a reply to another post of yours recently? Where I said that the site owner has not been able to finish all the updates since the 700MHz Clearance, as well as some of the bugs currently appearing on the site due to OS updates. He has some health issues at present, so I don't expect things like this to be done as a priority above all the other things.
In the meantime, try DAB Ensembles WorldWide | UK National & Regional and select London 1/2/3 as desired, or just scroll down.
