Well that's disappointing! Had not realized that BBC 4HD from Heathfield was a temporary measure, just for the duration of the Olympics. I would not have thought it would be too costly to put BBC 4 HD on the red button as well as COM8 after the Olympics. I believe this was done one year, following the appointment of Lord hall as D- G in 2012, before it was rolled out to 70% of the population in the UK.
This still leaves millions of viewers without BBC 4HD. In East Sussex alone, just 70 miles from London, the population is over 500,00, many of which rely on transmissions from Heathfield. Ironically, CBBC HD, which we can receive, was extended to 8.30pm when BBC3 HD was axed. Surely that would have been the ideal opportunity for BBC4 HD to be given wider coverage.
Come to that, does the CBBC content benefit that much in HD? As a lot of it is studio based, I don't suppose many children would be really bothered if they could only view in SD. Surely a channel set aside for the Arts, should have priority? Many BBC4 lovers have had to buy Satellite receivers to watch in HD. and they are the ones who also pay the licence fee!
Pity someone can't organize an online petition to demonstrate to Lord Hall just how many viewers are still deprived of watching in HD, the Arts channel of which he is so proud. I would if I knew how.
Regards
A disgruntled BBC4 viewer.

joanna s : Hi Joanna.
This has been my gripe for years! Living in Eastbourne, I am served by the Heathfield transmitter which although it broadcast BBC3 HD, could not transmit BBC4HD as it did not have the Comm 7 carrier.
I wrote to the BBC when BBC3 HD went online and asked why BBC4HD could not take its place, but received no reply.
I had heard that it would eventually arrive and low and behold, having retuned my Panasonic bluray recorder tonight (28th July)there it is, on channel 106! Just in time for the rest of the Prom relays.
Hope you can get it too.
