The problems cause by temperature inversions is a well known natural phenomenon and has occured every year, sometimes several times a year for many many years, since broadcasts in the UHF bands started. There is nothing anyone can do about it and it will certainly occur again in the future.
All you can do, as a viewer, is to watch the weather forecasts for high pressure over your area. That does not guarantee there will be temperature inversions, but is also does not guarantee that there won't be.
Please DO NOT RETUNE when it does happen.

Nigel Johnson:
It is highly unlikely that any engineering work will be postponed merely because of high pressure. There has been no change in the occurrance of temperature inversions related to 'Global Warming', and no increase is envisage in the future.

There are regional variations across the UK, but the briadcasters choose not to broadcast regional programming in HD as most studios are not yetr equipped with the necessary communications and studio equipment needed for HD transmission. I understand that the investment needed was delayed.

I have a relative who works for the BBC in a technical managerial role and my comment is based on what he tells me. They did have plans to equip all regional studios for HD but they realised it would be more expensive than originally thought. So some of the larger studios have been done but some smaller ones have not. Further, the data links for HD are more expensive too, apparently.

I think you need to think it through more carefully, bearing in mind that many programmes are made in SD rather than HD and there is a regulator 'getting in the way'.

Crystal Palace still transmits many channels in Group A, but the COMN7 and COM8 multiplexes are on channels 55 and 56 which are way above the Group A band, so a wideband aeial is needed.
This website was correct at the time of the change but subsequent changes have made some of the data incorrect. The owner knows about that.

We need a full post code so that we can check which transmitter (of the over 1100) you should be receiving from. Only then can we determine whether it transmits COMs 7&8 - not all transmitters provide them.
You will need to be within a very few miles of the transmitter to successfully use an indor aerial (in the room with the TV set). you would do better with an external aerial, or possibly one in the loft - but that depends on your exact location relative to the transmitter.

If you are having reception problems, please see Freeview blames weather for TV problems - BBC News where the issue is explained. DO NOT RETUNE.
