Alan:

There is no possibility that an indoor aerial will be of any use at your location, you're just far too far from the Mendip transmitter for them to work. Just using a length of aerial cable will be even more useless.

You need to have a good wideband aerial fitted to cope with the changes to channel usage.

Note that there will be further channle usage changes in the next couple of weeks.

John Barber:

I presume you are talking about the aspect ratio of the pictures being displayed? If that is the case it has nothing whatever to do with the aerials. Rather it is more likely that the TV is not set up correctly. Please check the User Manual carefully.

Really we need a full post code so we can see what the expected receptions conditions are like at your location.

Please would you check that all your aerial cables are in good condition. Then unplug all the coaxial plug/sockets and refit them. Then perform a retune with the aerial unplugged and the plug it back in and do anoy=ther retune. Then check what channels you can get.

There is also some suggestion, unconfirmed, that atmospherics are have some effect on the signals from Sudbury. If that is the case then there is no cure as it is a perfect natural phenomenon.

The power has not changed at the Black Hill transmitter. Are you using a wideband aerial? Have you checked all your aeial cables and connections? Unplug all the coaxial plugs/sockets and refit them.

To get all tne channels from the Darvel transmitter, you need to use a wideband aerial. If you have not got one then you need to have one fitted as the older aerials will not get the COM7 or COM8 services. If you do n ot hace cable or satellite you should contact Freeview at Important changes to Freeview TV signals | Freeview They may well offer to fit a new aerial for you free of charge.

Gwilym:

That close to the transmitter leads me to suspect that you have too much signal and that is causing your problems. Firstly, check the signal strengths shown on your TV. Ideally they should be between 60% and 85%, any more than this will cause the problems you report. If they are too strong you can reduce the strength using coaxial attenuators that are widely available on-line. When you fit an attenuator, fit it to the TV end of the aerial lead and then add a short flylead from the attenuator to the TV input socket.

Please provide a full post code so that we can look at the predicted reception conditions at your location.

Phil Ritson:

Your dish will not need to be realigned as it already aims at the correct satellites. However, you will need to have the LNB (the block at the far end of the arm sticking out from the dish) changed as a Sky Q LNB does not work in the same way as a 'traditional' satellite receiver LNB. A new LNB is not expensive but getting a competant installer to fit one will entail a charge. Talk to local satellite/aerial installers about having the LNB changed - it's a simple job and should only take a few minutes.

The existing cables will be fine as long as they are in good condition.

I wish you the very best of health and good luck.

It's interesting to consider what happens if/when the BBC start getting paid for over 75's watching TV. They estimate that it will cost them about 250m to collect the fees - but that it will bring in an additional 500m - 600m to add to their coffers. So a net profit of some 250m - 350m.

More money for them to squander on overly paid presenters and higher management.

IP1 is not a full post code so doesn't help at all. The Digital UK Coverage checker needs the FULL post code, both parts, befiore you can get any information from it. That''s why I asked for a full post code.
