Tacolneston (Norfolk, England) Full Freeview transmitterMonday 12 November 2012 8:47PM
Bury St. Edmunds
I have a Panasonic dmr-ez49veb combi recorder, and just this evening (12th November) I suddenly am unable to access the programme Guide on this unit, and sometimes when viewing via the recorder the screen goes blank after a few seconds. I have done a retune by signal quality twice, but the usual boxes that come up on-screen when I do this are missing although the unit display is working. The subtitle function via the unit is also not working properly. Is this to do with reduced signal strength? I am on the Tacolneston transmitter. The unit seems to be working just fine otherwise. My TV also is working fine. Normally I have no problems with either TV or recorder and I cannot think what else may have caused the problems. I hope the unit itself has not broken down. Any comments please?

Thank you jb38 - I came down this morning and found that I had my programme Guide back again. Honestly, it is quite scary to find that suddenly things don't work that did before. I had come to the conclusion after I posted my panicky note last evening that the signal strength was the problem (I went on-line to check a few more things and this seemed to be the only sensible cause apart from a broken unit). I take on board what you say about a re-tune. How much longer is the engineering work at Tacolneston going on I wonder, and does it ever get back to normal? Suddenly to find a blank screen etc. is worrying, and had I not had access to the internet and been reasonably good at looking up things I would have had no idea what to do or who to ask about it. Thanks again for your input.

I'm fed up with my Freeview reception via my VHS/DVD recorder-player going pear-shaped every now and again. This results in a loss of my Guide facility and blue-screen on my television screen. The regular TV reception is OK. WHEN IS TACOLNESTON GOING TO STOP MESSING ABOUT WITH THE SIGNAL WITH IT'S ENGINEERING WORKS etc.? It has happened twice quite recently. I am writing this in frustration and am not really expecting a reply, but it seems to happen just when I want to try and record a programme.

On waking this morning I find that on all the DAB radios in my house there is break-up of the signal where there was none before. Is this due in any way to the changes that have occurred recently with Freeview TV? I am at IP33 2PE

I too was getting interruption of my Freeview signal (Bury St. Edmunds, IP33 2PE) recently and wondered whether it was related to high atmospheric pressure, as I do remember analogue signal problems in the summertime months years ago. However, when I looked at my barometer I didn't think that the reading was all that high, so went slightly into panic mode! When a friend of mind, who lives fairly close-by, reported similar problems I was reassured and things now seem to have improved, but I would agree that it was infuriating when in the middle of "Wallander" the picture disappeared and I "lost the plot". Nowadays many people do have catch-up, and as this happens infrequently I think we should all be glad that we do have a Freeview service which mostly serves us well. I hope the dissatisfied people are now back to happier days.

I am getting "no channel found" on my Freeview from Tacolneston on 30th April. Have tried to re-tune but nothing is happening. What's going on please?
