Lesley: Basically yes! although with you being located at only 9 miles away from Crystal Palace and are receiving such a good signal when the transmitters are presently on low power, then there's a slight (very) possibly that (in theory anyway) you could receive receive a signal thats slightly too strong after switchover.
If when switchover takes place you find that your picture starts glitching or freezing, then you would require an attenuator in line with the aerial socket of whatever you are receiving on. (about £4.00 or so)
Its unlikely that you will though, but best to keep whats said in mind.

Stephen: Try carrying out a factory reset on the TV then once complete go into the TV's set up screen / manual tune / and enter Winter Hills mux Ch62 (BBC) and click on search, storing what's received, then do exactly the same thing again but this time entering mux Ch59 (ITV).
Don't do anything else until you check and verify reception of these channels is OK, then you can use "update channel list" or whatever its called on your TV to recover the remaining muxes.
It would also have been of assistance to have knowledge of your location (pref: post code) in case Winter Hill isn't your main transmitter.

Arti: I have just carried out a BBC1 signal check on both transmitters that cover your area, namely Waltham and Belmont, and both are OK with me down in the Stamford area.

Trish: As your question is one involving reception then its impossible for anyone to offer assistance unless your location (pref: post code) is known, as that would then enable checking of the signal strengths expected wherever you might be located, plus any other advice that may be of help with your problem.

Fraz: You have to look at it as though it was a local council somewhere trying to entice a large department store chain to open a store in their area, but the department store having carried out a survey beforehand and discovered that the profit levels expected from doing so would not justify the cost of opening the store.
This is exactly the same situation as with commercial multiplex operators having gathered information on just how many private companies would be willing to pay / share the operating costs of running a multiplex purely for advertising purposes "before" the multiplex is built, i.e: if only a few are seen to be interested then the operating costs would grossly outweigh any income received from providing the transmission facilities, hence nothing is provided.
The basic principles of capitalism, if it doesn't pay it doesn't get done, or in this case built!!

Craig: Sutton Coldfield appears to be your main station as as such there is no external reason why this should have happened, I therefore suggest that you carry out a reset on your TV / box followed by another auto tune, if this still doesn't work then "if" at all possible I would try taking your kitchen TV upstairs and carrying out another auto tune with it connected into the upstairs aerial.

EA: Well, if you moved the box from one room to another then you must have done something connected with the aerial, either by extending the co-ax or moving the aerial if an indoor "same room" type.
If the co-ax was extended then the additional cable has likely reduced the signal slightly whereby taking it under the reception threshold of some of the muxes, or if its an indoor type aerial then its sitting in a more screened position.
Maybe you could further clarify on this, plus as its a reception query you should really indicate your location (pref: post code) to enable the signal strength expected in your area to be carried out.

Terry: These older Sky boxes can suffer from power supply problems of a nature that allows their tuners operating voltage to fall off slightly resulting in the signal quality dropping, as 50% is on the verges of being under whats acceptable.
This of course may not be the cause of your problem, although if not the only other thing that can cause a quality drop is the dish having been nudged slightly out of alignment, possibly by a high blustery wind, and so this aspect would require checking.

michael bladen: This strongly suggests that your dish as moved slightly out of alignment which has possibly been caused by high blustery winds, and should the alignment problem apply it most likely being in the horizontal plane, i.e: moving to left or right.
The other possibility is that the coax connection to the LNB on the dish is defective, so this would require checking.

Toni: Just spotted that you had given an update, yes, concentrate on the scart switching device. You are also quite correct in what you say regarding older equipment, as you can frequently get these type of problems when connecting devices even when they originate from the same manufacturer let alone crossing brands.
