Alys Swan-Jackson: If you are aware that a switchover event has taken place at whatever station covers your area (you not having mentioned your location) then yes you will have to re-tune each of the devices used or you are liable to lose channels.

As far as the operation of your equipment is concerned, nothing will change.

By the way, if after re-scanning should you have a query on reception then your post code (or one of close by) should really be provided, this for purposes of signal checking in your area.

Diagnostics - old version

Tj: If you have the Sky box coupled into your TV via a scart lead make sure that the scart plugs on both the box and the TV are still fully seated into the sockets, and if they are then pull the mains plug out of the Sky box, then wait about 10 seconds or so before reinserting it and allowing the box go through its usual searching for listings procedure.

If on the other hand the Sky box is coupled into the TV's aerial socket from the Sky boxes RF1 output, go into the engineers menu and change the RF output to another channel, then re-scan the TV (on analogue) to pick up the altered RF1 output channel.

Martin David: Unfortunately the RV635 is only fitted with a DVB-T tuner and as such is an HD ready device, this info from the Toshiba manual for that particular model.

Jim chaney: The reason for Sandy's SDN mux being on low power is because it shares Ch31 with Crystal Palaces low powered HD service, however Crystal Palace stops using Ch31 from April 18th but its not until May 9th when a re-tuning event takes place at Sandy that SDN's power increases as well as the channel changing from 31 to 51.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat
Thursday 22 March 2012 8:15AM

bottomdollar: You can use your old Sky+ box perfectly OK without a card to receive most of the normal non-dedicated Sky channels you had before (excl: Pick TV) and which up to a point are very similar to that on Freesat, the only point is that you will not be able to use anything associated with the recorder side of the box as Sky permanently retains access to that, this including the playing back of anything you might have stored on its hard drive, so anything important should be transferred to an external recorder beforehand.

As far as the LNB is concerned you "might" already have a quad type fitted, have a look at where the two coax leads enters the block to check if it has two spare outlets, if not then the dual block fitted will require changing over to a quad version and an additional coax run from this to wherever you are wishing to use the Sky+ box.

By the way I only mentioned running a coax (singular) from the LNB as although the Sky+ box has two inputs the second one wont really be of any use when you cannot use the recorder, although I suppose you could opt for twin leads in case you make any changes in the future, like purchasing a twin tuner Freesat PVR which does require dual inputs.

spencer: You are indicated as being well outside of the area that Whitehawk Hill ( @ 14mls / 145 degrees) is intended to serve, this irrespective of what size of aerial might be installed, however Midhurst (@ 18mls / 274 degrees) is indicated on the predictor as giving excellent coverage at distances even further to the East than your own location, and so this would be appear as a much better bet for a good "full service" signal, that is unless you are aware of any local obstructions that exist that could block it, as predictors do not always take that type of situation into account.

Midhursts channels being: 55 - 61 - 58HD - 62 - 62 - 50 and although its worth you trying a manual tune on say its BBC mux, (55) with the angle your aerial is sitting at (about 30 degrees from its dead spot) its doubtful if you would pick anything up.

spencer: Just to add, that whats been said is based on the predictions indicated using the code provided.

Richard Davis: The Philips 5605 does NOT have a DVB-T2 tuner fitted (only DVB-T) and so is only an HD ready set, meaning that it is capable of showing an HD image but only if fed into it from an external source via one of its HDMI sockets.

gjecbvp: As your question is one involving a reception issue then you really have to indicate your location, and with this preferably in the form of a post code, as it will then enable the signal levels expected in your area to be assessed plus from whatever station covers it.

Jessica: Its possibly a bit late as you may already have bought it, but I suppose you do know that its not so much switching a booster off but more of by-passing it by coupling its input and output leads together, as if you switch a booster off it can kill the signal more than is required.

This by the way, applying to any booster whether it be mast head or other "behind the set" types.
