Laura: Meant to also say that you might be picking up the Brixham relay (@ 1 mile away) which is a PSB only station which does transmit any commercial channels, if this is happening then you might have to manually tune in Beacon Hills channels to avoid this, as Brixham uses 43-50-46, whereas Beacon Hills channels are: 60-53-57-42-45-51.

Your signal checking screen should indicate the mux channels you have picked up, and if it is Brixham then you should delete them by selecting an auto-tune but immediately stopping it as soon as it starts, then go into the manual tune screen and enter these channels one at a time, scanning after each entry.

Clive: Ch4 is on the same transmitter as ITV1 so do you still get this? if so then carry out a "factory reset" on your TV, this sometimes called "default setting" on some equipment, then once done follow it up with another auto-tune.

Rob: Adaptors can be obtained for every configuration of connectors, so "if" you have a cable end fitted with an "F" connector then you require an adaptor called a "female F to male coax plug" adaptor, these might be obtainable from places such as Maplin's although numerous e-bay outlets sells them.

The only thing I will say though is, to make sure that the lead you refer to doesn't from a satellite dish, or if it doesn't that's it wasn't originally connected onto an aerial amplifiers power supply, as most use "F" connectors on the aerial down lead and with a coax connector on their output that goes to the TV.

Rog / Dave Lindsay: Just purely for information purposes.

Regarding the number of complaints concerning bad reception of Sandy's commercial muxes on Ch's 48 - 51 - 52, ironically with myself now joining others with a similar complaint so I decided to carry out some checks on them earlier on, one from home and the other mobile but parked up on higher ground approximately 1 mile away, the outcome of the tests revealing both Ch's 48 & 51 being received at approximately 50% or so down on normal strength, but worse being accompanied with "very" high levels of quality fluctuation, however as far as Ch52 is concerned no signal whatsoever was picked up from it, and with no signs that it would either when the level indicators were observed over a few minutes.

By the way these tests were carried out in the Stamford area (TX @ 160 degrees from location) and for both tests amplified log periodic aerials were used, Sandy's PSB muxes 27 - 24 - 21 all coming in with a rock steady 95+% strength & 100% quality at both locations.

Although I don't feel that this reception difficulty is caused by anything related to a transmitter problem as that would almost certainly be noticed in the TX room, I do though have suspicions regarding the possibility that it might be connected with the masts aerial panels covering the 270 / 360 degree segment, as a fault having developed in that area would result in this type of problem, the degrees mentioned covering from slightly South of Northampton clockwise past Stamford to near Spalding approximately 20 miles to the East.

Still time will tell.

Lesley: Yes, it seems to be Hannington that you are receiving from, although a bit error rate being shown indicates that your signal is liable to be suffering from being intermittently obstructed along the way, this most likely being caused by trees.

Your signal level is somewhat higher than would have been expected, do you already have a booster on it? although whether you have or not carry out the signal test mentioned as soon as you lose the ITV3 picture, giving an update on your findings.

Regarding the picture being OK upstairs, is the aerial fed into both places? and if it is has this been done using a two way powered splitter, or is it just linked into the upstairs then carries on downstairs?

tony: These sat finders cannot differentiate between satellites, and are you sure that its not set on 19.2 rather than 28.2? as when moving a dish into alignment the difference between them is a lot less than would be expected over what 10 degrees difference would suggest.

Are you also checking using the Sky boxes signal strength / quality indicator accessed via "Services - 4 - 6"?

By the way why did you change the dish? as I failed to find a previous posting from you on this.

Robert Hughes: Briantist is really the person for this sort of question, but just enter your new e-mail address into the "your e-mail" box deleting the one that's already been automatically entered "if" you are known in the system, then click on the e-mail link that will be sent to you in exactly the same way as was previously done, and the new address will be recognised.

Justin: This type or query really requires your location to be known (pref: post code or one from nearby) as its impossible to assess the signal levels expected at your location without this knowledge.

However what you have reported does suggest that you might be located in an area with a somewhat lower signal strength that's prone to being interfered with by atmospheric conditions.

Sarah C: And just another little, but very important point to remember being, that should immediately after switch over on the 13th that you find that your reception on BBC (and only) has actually taken a downhill dive, then this will most likely be caused by your TV or boxes tuner suffering from the effects of being overloaded through receiving an excessively high level of signal, something which is very possible by you being located at just a little over 1 mile way away from the transmitter, although to be quite frank about it I am surprised that you aren't already suffering from that problem, unless that is you are tucked in behind a hill that's screens you from the transmitter.

However, should you experience a deterioration with reception on BBC then purely for a test try and borrow a set top aerial and see how that goes, or if you cant manage that then try a short piece of wire (about 12-18" or so) pushed into the inner section of the aerial socket, and if this results in better reception then you will require to purchase an attenuator to place in line with your TV or boxes aerial socket.

Of course everything might well go smoothly, but for many people who resides relatively close to the transmitter it doesn't, this being my only reason for alerting you to this potential problem.
