Simon: Just as an afterthought to what I already mentioned, on reading your posting again I take it that you did actually carry out the initial scan with your LG being set to "DVB" and not analogue?

Karen: Good reception of the multiplex used by these programme channels mentioned is not necessarily guaranteed at your location, and all that's likely happened is that the signal has dropped down slightly to under the reception threshold for your TV / box, the problem now being that by you carrying out a re-scan you will have lost it from your receivers memory. (never re-scan when a channels drops out!)

As it appears to be Crystal Palace that you are receiving from, (nothing else shown as possible) what I suggest you now do apart from carrying out frequent re-scans, is to carry out a "manual" scan only on mux Ch22 (the channel used by C/P for ITV / Ch4/5 etc) and see if anything comes in, but before doing so check up in the 800 ranges to make sure ITV1 etc is not up there.

By the way, depending on your TV / box, when you enter Ch22 as the channel you want to scan you might see its present signal level being shown, this at least proving its there, albeit it still might be under the reception threshold.

Mr brown: The most common reason for this problem is due to the box having picked up more programmes than its memory is capable of storing, hence they are lost on switch off.

You will have to carry out a complete "first time scan" or better still a factory reset followed by a re-scan, as either of these procedures usually cures the problem.

moe netting: Just in addition / back up to what Steve P has mentioned insomuch that wet roof tiles, especially if of the thicker dense variety, can give exactly the same effect as though a wet dish cloth was thrown over the aerial, although this effect usually manifests itself more so in areas where signal strength isn't that good to start off with, something which "might" apply in your case albeit you are only 12 miles away from the station, and as also mentioned by Steve P, are actually predicted as being able to have good reception, not of course that these (even trade views) can be taken without the usual "pinch of salt", as its impossible for them to cater for any local conditions that may be applicable.

Another point to keep in mind though is, that any fluctuations seen in signal level during windy conditions is invariably caused by such as tree branches etc blowing about, as nothing on a transmitter mast can cause it.

Bill: Well if you have carried out a factory reset, which scrubs everything stored in the memory, and after re-scanning you find that it still loses channels when switched off, then there isn't really anything else you can do except to retire the box as it suggests that a fault has developed in its memory system, or alternatively that you are still picking up more channels than its memory can store, something that can happen when using a box with limited memory capacity in areas where more than one station can be picked up.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat

andrew williamson: If you do not use a Sky card with the basic box the regional news services will default to London, plus I believe you will not be able to view Pick TV, otherwise everything will be as you wish.

Steve: Assuming that the two other TV's are being used to view Sky via your Sky+ boxes RF1(or 2) output, although this shouldn't really be necessary as nothing should have changed, but go into the Sky boxes set up menu (0-0-1-select in one smooth operation) and make sure the RF output channel is still set to whatever it was before, as what you have reported suggests that it possibly isn't, this happening when you disconnected the box from the mains.

This said though taking it that you haven't accidentally left the co-ax cable from the Sky+ box unconnected, but there isn't really any connection between your cable tidying up exercise and not being able to receive on the other TV's except by the possibility of one of the aforementioned reasons applying, unless the boxes RF modulator has failed. (not unheard of!)

By the way, if you have forgotten which RF channel was being used by the Sky boxes modulator just carry out a re-scan on one of the TV's whilst its on "analogue" and it will pick it up, then do likewise on the second set, if you experience interference on the TV's you will need to set the Sky boxes modulator to another channel and set the TV's to this, or just re-scan the TV's again to pick it up.

Jim C: Although you have obviously cured the excess channels in memory problem that these older Philips boxes can suffer from, as far as this problem is concerned it could be caused by another reason connected to signal level, as a test p/code (Co-op post office / Tan lane) indicates that its possible to receive from various sources in your area.

What to do is carry out a signal strength check whilst on BBC1, noting the level and channel number associated with it, then do the same on the blank EPG3 / 4 positions noting their levels / channel numbers, as the signal might still be there but just at a lower level which is below the reception threshold for the box, and which "might" be because they are not being received from the same station.

Once done give an update on results including the channel numbers seen, as these can then be cross checked to determine if they originate from the same source.

Dorothy Quine: Nothing with a Freeview label can be connected to anything Sky as they use totally different operating systems. If you had indicated your location (post code) then your reception possibilities could have been assessed using the post code predictor, which although having its faults does give an idea of what's possible.

Maybe you could also mention what brand of recorder you are referring to and where your aerial is located.
