Jenny Redman: Although the Cliftonville area is indicated as being covered by the Margate Freeview Light PSB only transmitter (i.e: no commercial channels such as ITV3 /Pick TV/4Music etc) your area is also covered by the Dover "full service" transmitter, however no faults are seen listed against either station, then the easiest way to determine if your problem is being caused by a fault on your aerial system, or possibly by interference from elsewhere, is to make a local enquiry with such as a neighbour.
That said is on the assumption that you have checked that any jumper leads used to connect the TV into the aerial are tightly fitted into their sockets.
By the way, if the elements on your aerial are pointing up and down, then your reception is from Margate, elements on aerials facing towards Dover being horizontal.

Graeme newbold: The problem could possibly be down to a glitch on the PSB2 transmitter that covers your mothers area, all programme channels mentioned being broadcast by this transmitter. However, its impossible to check the status of the transmitter in question without having knowledge of your mothers location, this preferably in the form of a post code or one from nearby, e.g: a shop / post office.

Steve: What you have mentioned with regards to Sky having disabled your access to the recording / playback facilities on your Sky+HD has always been the case, but though you could have taken out another subscription (@ approx £10.25 per month) at the time of cancelling your main one purely for the purpose of retaining the recording / playback facilities you have just lost, (and "only" those)
However, most decide against this taking this route by purchasing a twin tuner Freesat HD recorder (PVR) which is 100% compatible with Sky dish systems, the Freesat box referred to offering exactly the same facilities as a Sky+HD box, but subscription free!
On the subject of channels, have a study at the undermentioned link, running down the list of channels in the left hand column that you normally view, then checking along to the right under the Freesat column.
By the way, as far as Freesat HD recorders are concerned, Humax brand devices are one the most reliable types around.

Gerry Chris: If when you say that the new DVD player will not work through the Sky box but does when connected directly into the TV, are you testing the DVD player by simply disconnecting the Sky boxes scart connector "on the TV" (not box) and replacing it with another cable coming from the new DVD player? if you are then try the same test again but placing the TV back onto Freeview first before connecting the DVD into it, making sure that the DVD is switched off first.
Does the TV switch over to the DVD player when you switch it on? if it doesnt then this indicates that pin 8 on either the scart or the new DVD has not been connected, try another scart lead.

Gerry Chris: My reply was given based on the assumption that your DVD player is connected into the Sky boxes VCR scart socket, the Sky boxes output being connected into the TV, and that what you are meaning is that you are unable to get the DVD player to connect into the TV (via the Sky box) even although the Sky box has been placed on standby "before" switching the DVD player on.
If the aforementioned is correct? then that said in the latter paragraph of my previous reply is the most likely reason for your problem, that is unless you are using a variation of the procedure mentioned?

Mandy : A digital Freeview box "has" to be connected into a normal aerial, it will "not" work on a satellite dish.
As far as being able to view Sky around the house on old TV's but have to change channels on the "main set", which is the Sky box, this is inclined to indicate that the coax cable feeding the signal into the various outlet points has been connected into the Sky boxes "analogue" modulators RF1 (or 2) output socket, the modulator sending an "analogue" signal of the programme being viewed on the box along the cable, the TV's receiving the signal having to be set on "analogue" (if Freeview TV's) in order to view the signal, an "analogue" programme button number usually being allocated for this purpose.
Some people with Freeview boxes (via a normal aerial) but who have also retained their old Sky box, use the aforementioned modulator system to enable Sky to also be viewed in other rooms as well as Freeview, this being achieved by connecting the aerials downlead cable into the Sky boxes "aerial input" socket, the Freeview signal then passing through the Sky box and out of the RF1(or 2) socket as well as the analogue signal picked up from the Sky boxes modulator, Sky being viewed by selecting "analogue" on any the Freeview TV's that wish to view it. Note: viewing being restricted to whatever channel has been selected on the Sky box.

catherine birch: Should the socket referred to be the one fitted into a wall plate?, if the jumper lead connected into the socket is known to be OK, then remove the plug from the socket, and in the centre of the socket you will see the small circular piece of metal that grips the centre pin of the plug that's connected into it, this can slacken off through time resulting in problems of the type you are complaining of. All that's generally required to rectify the problem is to carefully squeeze the circular centre piece slightly together just enough to give the plug a good tight fit. This procedure also applies to TV's or boxes aerial sockets.
If the aerial socket referred to is neither of the two mentioned, then please say what they are.

marilyn feaveryear: As no faults are indicated (as yet) on either the Tacolneston or Norwich Central relay, nor is any engineering work taking place at either station, then this is inclined to point to something having happened to the aerial system, is the aerial system or the cables from, communal in any way?
The other point being, that if you have tried resetting the TV's, (your neighbours and yours) then this will have deleted the channels already stored in the tuners, this then requiring frequent retunes in an attempt to recover them, whereas the signal would have returned of its own accord if the receiving devices (TV or box) had not been retuned.
Its never advisable to try resetting a TV nor carrying out a retune when a no signal message is seen, as the reason for the problem is very seldom ever connected with the actual TV or box.
