Chris: The answer is no, as True crime (60) is only broadcast on low powered "local" (restricted coverage) multiplexes which were added to a (limited) number main stations which already has two additional (COM7 & COM8) multiplexes, Dover only being a standard 6 multiplex full service station.

By the way, re Ian Smiths reply, if you do happen to have a dish, (albeit I very much doubt that you will) the FEC setting Ian omitted to mention is 5/6, although this setting is entered automatically on some devices.

Roy Mackenzie: The problem as reported, could well be down to a defective hard drive. However, if you haven't already done so? I would try reformatting the hard drive, this in the manual for your model being referred to as "re-initialise hard disk". (page39)

It would though be of assistance to have knowledge of your location, as C54 is not one of the Mux channels used by Sandy Heath, your posting having been made under the heading of same.

Lynda: If you are referring to "Sky" multiroom? then can you still access the menu on the black HD box?, should you be unable to, try disconnecting it from the mains supply for about a minute or so before powering it up again and see it this rectifies the problem, if it doesn't, then try replacing the batteries in the remote control, if this still fails to rectify the problem then the box is defective.

If though on the other hand you can access the menu? then a fault could have developed in either the coax cable feeding into the black box, or the port on the dishes LNB that the coax is connected into is defective, the only way of ascertaining if this applies or not being by temporarily installing the box in the main room boxes position, if it works, then the aforementioned (coax/ LNB) problem is responsible.

Of course as an alternative to the aforementioned, you could try temporarily installing the main box in the black HD boxes position, if it works, then the black HD box is defective.

By the way, if using the latter alternative method and your main room box is a Sky+ type, just use the the boxes LNB1 input for the test.

Jason : Viterbi is a method of error correction used in digital transmission. This in some devices being indicated as BER (bit error rate), although in most Freeview (or Freesat) devices simply indicated as "quality".

'Pre Viterbi' relates to the errors detected on the incoming bit stream, with "post" being the amount of errors after the Viterbi correction algorithm has been applied, so the ideal situation is to have "post" indicating zero.
The 5s values will be the Viterbi measurements averaged over 5 seconds.

Interference from switching on / off household electrical appliances nearly always results in fluctuations in quality, especially so in less than perfect aerial systems, particularly aerials of the indoor (same room) variety.

Jason: Re signal. Not necessarily so where the strength of the signal is concerned. The following two statements (copied and pasted in) from KMJ,Derby's previous reply being very applicable.

> Slight repositioning of the aerial might make a considerable difference to the signal quality (and strength) being obtained.< (strength being the key word)

> Note that even with 100% quality there could still be interference from light switches due to their close proximity when using indoor or loft mounted aerials.<

Steve Poile: Although in the interests of accuracy a post code is really required, however, if you are referring to Wellington - Somerset? (TA21) the two transmitters covering the area are Mendip @ 32miles / 57 degrees and Stockland Hill @ 13 miles / 153 degrees, the degrees in both cases only being approximate, hence why a post code is required.

David Attwood: Malvern (@ 7.5mls/219 degrees, aerial vertical polarity) is listed as the station covering your friends area, Sutton Coldfield (@ 32 mls/ 30 degrees) indicated as not being receivable with the exception of an extremely poor and unreliable signal from its BBC B HD Mux.

Malvern's Mux channels being : BBC-53 / ITV- 57 / BBC B HD- 60 / COM4- 50 / COM5- 59 / COM6- 55.

Mux channels only mentioned in case you decide to give your friends TV a manual tune.

KMJ,Derby: Yes, quite so, as a Google roof top check over a relatively short distance in the area in question reveals a number of aerials pointing in a variety of directions, the fact of most of being mounted on tall poles somewhat suggesting that reception in this area is a tad on the iffy side, Ridge Hill as you will no doubt have seen, predicting variable reception on its PSB channels.
