Miles: As far as the PV panels are concerned as these are DC devices then they shouldn't have any effect in the way you are wondered about, however they are capable of blocking a loft aerials signal or alternatively causing deflection or reflection of a signal reaching a roof aerial, and especially so if its not that powerful.

However you are indicated as being located in a difficult reception area, as using the p/code provided you are only predicted as being able to receive the BBC's channels plus ITV1 from Wenvoe with none of the lower powered commercial multiplexes indicated as being possible to receive, and I feel that although you might well have received them before its likely to have been at a level not too far away from the reception drop out threshold of your equipment, and which they have now most likely dropped under hence no reception.

For a test, select BBC and go into the signal check menu and make a note of the level seen, then provided you haven't carried out a re-scan select ITV1 (or some other non BBC channel) and go into the signal check menu to see what's being indicated strength / quality wise, if though you have carried out a re-scan then the ITV1 mux channel will have been lost from the memory so go into the tuning menu / manual tune and enter Ch44 (ITV1), and as soon as you enter it look to see if a signal level is being shown, and if so how much it is under the level of the BBC channel previously tested for strength, but no matter what the level it will need to be lifted otherwise you will not get a picture, this being where you would benefit from an amplifier in line with your aerial lead, that is if you haven't already got one.

Just as a point of interest, I noticed that moving a short distance from your p/code location to nearer the village actually loses Wenvoe reception and its Mendip that takes over, but in exactly the same way as Wenvoe, that is with only the main PSB channels being possible to receive, albeit coverage in the immediate vicinity really being provided by the USK PSB only relay @ 1 mile away.

Anyway have a test at the levels seen and giving an update on results, as further advice can then be given if required.

Sharon: Its just something that you will unfortunately have to put up with for the time being as many are in the same boat as yourself, this due to a combination of engineering work taking place at the transmitter coupled to possible problems caused by atmospheric conditions, come April 18th when the station goes over to high power operation these problems should vanish.

Jill: Well the statement of Sky / Freesat is really a contradictory one insomuch that these are separate services received by two different types of satellite boxes, either a Freesat one or alternatively a Sky box.

The point is, that if your Mum paid for a mini dish to be set up for her exclusive use then it belongs to her, as its not connected to any possible Sky installation that the complex might have and as such they have no right to connect anything to it without your Mums approval, which she should not give as someone else is effectively cashing in on your Mums installation.

Its really the case of who installed the set up for her? and does it state "Sky" anywhere on her Satellite receiver box? as if it does then that "might" indicate that the complex possibly has some tie up with Sky as far as them providing equipment.

Did your Mum sign any contract with Sky?

Paul: If you haven't already done so, I would suggest that you reset the box using the mains plug out for a minute or so method before reconnecting same and letting it go through the usual searching for channels
procedure, as the box might have been carrying out some operation like channel updating when it lost the signal.

If though after doing this they still haven't returned, then use the full reset procedure where you hold in the back up button "on the box" whilst you reconnect the mains supply, only letting go of it when all the boxes LEDs are seen to illuminate, the downloading procedure that follows this action taking up to about 20 mins or so to complete.

I will say though that the signal strength you see indicated on the box is only measured on the default transponder, and so your dish could still be a fraction off, but if its indicating 75% or more (S/Q)) then its unlikely that it is.

Chris: As you are indicated as being located at only 8 miles away from Crystal Palace your recently purchased aerial is totally over the top for reception, that is even at present, and come April 18th when the station switches to high power is liable to cause complete blocking of reception by overloading your tuners input.

I feel that you are possibly trying to overcome problems that are basically outwith your control and introducing others in the process, as an aerial more along the lines of a log 40 at the very most should be suffice fot your needs, especially so when switchover takes place.

Rich: Although you mention that the box is Freeview+ model are you sure that its capable of HD reception? as Sagem makes both types, any doubts please give the model number involved.

The other point is, that although you say you are on the Gloucestershire network, where exactly? (pref: post code) as that would enable your reception possibilities to be checked on just in case HD is not as yet being transmitted in your area.

Rich: Just to say that without knowledge of your post code, if as it appears you are using Ridge Hill then there is no reason you should not be getting HD, that is unless as aforementioned your box is not capable of receiving it, verified by not seeing programme channel numbers 50 - 54 shown in the EPG list.

Have a look at the boxes specifications in your user manual, and if in the tuner section you only see DVB-T mentioned than its not an HD model, HD being DVB-T2.

Chris: A reply to your latest posting update was made to your other two postings made under "Loft aerials", this being the third heading you have used.

I feel that you are possibly trying to compensate for problems that are basically out with your control and introducing others in the process, as an aerial more along the lines of a log 40 at the very most should be suffice for your needs, especially so when switchover takes place.

As regards to your aerial, these devices are really intended as a way (or attempt anyway) of getting over reception problems where near line of site is involved coupled to extreme distance, obviously neither applying in your case.

F Canfield: As you moved the breakfast bar to the side of the room did you also have to move the aerial position? even if only about 6 or 7 feet or so.

If you did and you are using an indoor type with a small stand try temporarily moving it back to approximately the previous position and carrying out another re-scan, as unless you were previously receiving the local Kewstoke transmitter @ 1 mile away the other main stations are Mendip and Wenvoe at 16 & 17mls away, and an indoor aerial used at these distances can show large differences in reception even if only moved by about 3 feet or so, and it might be this that's causing the problem.

If none of whats said applies, then how is the TV connected into the aerial, in other words what route does the cable take?
