Jen5: Just had a check at your reception possibilities, and I have to say that at this present time they aren't really very promising, with this situation not really showing any signs of improvement until September 2012.
Even then though you "might" only be able to receive PSB transmissions from Weardale, this being the case I would recommend that you go along the Freesat line, as satellite reception is 99.9% of the time perfect, as its only sometimes during a heavy rainstorm that the picture might be seen to glitch slightly.

Robert: Assuming that you cant get any other programmes on that Mux either like QVC(16) or Quest(38), you should scrub everything already stored by carrying out a factory reset (or default setting) then manually tune in Mux Ch30 which ITV3 is on, then after storing anything received ("if" that is!) add the other multiplexes by using "search for additional channels" or whatever its called on your TV / Humax box.
Sometimes a weak signal can be captured on a device if its Mux channel specifically tuned in, rather than it being searched for as part of a re-scan.
Shoud by any chance you are presently able to receive QVC or Quest, still try out whats been said.

P RICHARDS: Yes! but for some reason or another Carmel (@ 16mls / 96 degrees) is not shown on the trade predictor as a possibility for reception at your location, Preseli (@ 12 mls / 310 degrees) being indicated on its own.
The HD Mux on Preseli being Ch50 with Carmel being on Mux Ch57.

JBC: Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the trade reception predictor indicates that nothing at all is possible on that code until next April, and even when it is its a Freeview "Light" transmitter, this meaning that its a PSB only station using three multiplexes. (i.e: limited channels)
Crystal Palace is shown as being possible from 18th of April 2012, but not at levels I would personally consider to be guaranteed glitch free. If I was in your situation I would be considering Freesat as by far the best option.

Louise: Are you sure that the aerial is pointing towards Emley Moor? and not your local Todmorden transmitter and which you appear to be right on the doorstep of, this being a Freeview "light" (PSB) station and so you will not have the same selection of channels as you would do from a main station, plus it has to be said that reception of Emley Moor is not shown as being possible on the trade predictor.
Just to confirm where you are receiving from, when you are carrying out a signal check note the Mux channel number being shown along with the strength indications, Todmordens BBC1 on Ch49 / ITV on Ch45, whereas Emley Moor has BBC1 on Ch47 / ITV Ch44.
As you have dropped using Sky you might have been better off using the Sky dish with a Freesat receiver, as nothing would require to be altered the dish working with any satellite device.
You could also have a look at the way your aerials is mounted, as for Todmorden the elements will be mounted vertically (straight up and down) whereas Emley Moor is horizontal.

Robert chilton: The usual reason for this happening in boxes such as these is because the total number of channels stored exceeds what the box is capable of storing, this meaning that after having carried out a factory re-set then re-tune go into the channel list and delete everything seen that's not required, many of found up in the 800 ranges.
This must be done before switching off.

JBC: Yes, the dish is the snag for some people as it cant really be classed as an adornment to a property, that is if allowed at all!
And just to confirm, your existing aerial will be OK for Freeview come next April, as it would only require changing if reception from Crystal Palace became a possibility and you decided to use it for a better selection of programmes.

Briantist: As regards to the latter, yes it was a bit confusing at the time, but searching through quite a number of the previously made postings listed I sussed out what I wanted to know by disregarding some of the alien content in between.
Thanks for the insight on your methods used for gathering info, and which I appreciate must be an extremely time consuming exercise for anyone to carry out unless they are fully committed to being purely a backroom person, you obviously not being exclusively in that category!. I have to admit though that much of what you do is totally over my head, as although I understood parts of what you referred to anything connected to programming websites etc can be a bit of a mystery to me, especially if they are as complex as your own!
Of course this being something that's a constant source of annoyance to my son (a computer programmer) when I don't instantly latch on to some complex instruction attached to a downloading link he might have sent me to carry out some task, with me always reminding him that "every man to his own job".
Likewise though, if he tags along with me to a job he is similarly mystified when observing me surrounded by test gear / circuit diagrams / and a host of components, (e.g: I.C's, transistors, modules even valves!), this connected to my main occupation involving the in depth (to component level) service and repair of RF communication equipment, although this has always been coupled to an active secondary job involving the repair of domestic electronic equipment (inc Ham gear) at various service depots dotted around.

Suzannah Jarrell: It simply means that your signal is on the verges of being too weak, and rain clouds can make the signals even weaker by partially blocking reception, like throwing a wet cloth over the dish.
What's usually done in cases like that is to use a larger dish as that catches more of the signal, although it wouldn't go amiss to have your dishes alignment checked just in case its slightly out, as that will exaggerate the problem.
This all said taking it that where the cable enters the dishes LNB is sound and is not allowing water to seep into the plug etc.
