Helga Crick: Nothing should caused the EPG number listings to vanish, as once that a TV has been tuned the guide numbers are held in a non volatile memory system that does not disappear even when the device is unpowered and nothing can change this except if a retune is carried out.

If this is happening when a scart lead is plugged in to the set (ref: July 20th posting) then the lead must either be faulty (short circuit) or its connected into a device that's activating the scart connectors pin 8 (the switching pin), this changing the TV over to whatever is connected into it.

Maybe you could indicate the brand / model number of both devices involved as this would help clarify the issue.

John G: Some TV's or boxes require a "first time installation" to be carried out as a standard auto-tune does not completely clear the tuners memory of all stored in it, this procedure also being described on some brands as "factory reset" / "default settings" or some similar sounding term.

By the way (15) Film4 now on the same multiplex as ITV1, and the message you refer to is "only" seen on Film4's original location.

Andrew Ellis: Some TV's or boxes require a "first time installation" to be carried out rather than the standard auto-tune which in some instances fails to completely clear the tuners memory of any remnants of channels stored in it, "first time installation" being described on some brands as "factory reset" / "default settings" or some similar sounding term.

However, before carrying out the aforementioned procedure you could try another auto-tune "but with the aerial removed", once completed which might result in a "no signal" or "no channels stored" message, reconnect the aerial and carry out a second auto-tune.

ilaria: If your dish has indeed been moved thereby knocking it out of alignment, then unfortunately you do not really have any option but to seek local assistance to help realign it back into its correct position of 13 degrees East, the secret of successful dish alignment being to adopt a slow motion approach as its extremely easy to miss the correct spot.

Stephen: The levels recommended for DTT reception are between 45 to 65 dBuV, however in practice 6dB should always be added above the minimum level to allow for variations in signal strength thereby making the minimum level 51dB, and so the target levels should be between 51dB - 71dB.

It should also be noted that erratic reception can be expected if the minimum signal level falls below 45 dBuV, whereas on the other hand care must be taken to ensure that the level does not exceed 80 dBuV or this is liable to result in picture problems being seen such as severe glitching / freezing or indeed a blank screen due to the excessively high RF level triggering instability in the tuners input / mixer stage.

Robert Keedwell: The channels used by Hutton's PSB only station are BBC (Ch59) - ITV1 (Ch50) - HD service (Ch55), if though nothing is indicated on the signal strength bar when you enter "but before pressing search" on either C59 or C50 then are you sure that you within range of this transmitter? as it does not radiate in an omni-directional pattern but biased towards the East and West, the highest output being towards the East.

Fiona: The contact number for at800 is 0808 13 13 800 and is stated as being free from landlines, the other number is 0333 31 31 800 and is charged at the national rate for landlines.

However these filters are obtainable from numerous sources, one example seen on the link.

nick: Its not so much the case that carrying out the procedure as described in my reply will positively pinpoint Holland as being responsible for your difficulties, but more the case checking and possibly eliminating other sources such as mentioned by KMJ.Derby, and although not a 100% accurate test it does at least give you an idea as to whether or not there is even the slightest trace of a signal from either of the stations mentioned, because if there is then both of will come into the equation whereas if not this its inclined to eliminate them as playing any role thereby casting suspicion on Holland as being entirely responsible.

I would like to emphasise that I am not doubting what you have said, but just giving you another way of verifying (or otherwise) what you suspect.

As far as C41 and C44 are concerned, the only reason for this is simply because that the offending source does not transmit on those channels, and of course neither does Waltham or Belmont!

MikeB: Although what you have mentioned is perfectly correct as things presently apply, but the reason I did not question what was said is because I look at it from the point of view that at800 is likely to have the No1 hotline from the powers that be, and such could well be privy to bang up to date information on the various phone companies intentions before any planning applications have been made for a licence to operate the service.

The other point being, that although Fiona might well have been sent a filter in error, I cant really see at800 dishing out these filters in the off chance that they might be required unless they know something we do not.

However, it would be interesting to know if Fiona is aware of anyone else in her area having been supplied with a filter, because if not then it could indeed have been sent in error.
