Below are all of jb38's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.mazbar: As far as RF2 is concerned, I was having a chat to the "in house" contact I referred to (not a customer advisor) and in his opinion this is purely is a rumour without foundation, as neither he nor any of his colleagues in the technical department have been informed about this officially or otherwise, I have though asked him if he could be good enough to give me an update via e-mail or phone should the situation change.
On the subject of Sky boxes without modulators and where a Global I.O port device has to be used, apparently lots of subscribers who were issued with these boxes have requested that they be returned, some even being outraged to the extent that they cancelled their contract, whereas numerous other subscribers who paid Sky £25.00 for the Global device have had their account credited with the cost of the device, this in effect making the device free of charge.

mazbar: Yes, quite so! you are quite correct with regards everyone pointing a finger at Sky etc as that is what has already happened with 4G, something which is not really surprising considering the amount of scaremongering that was put out by certain sections of the media, this somewhat proving the point that sometimes too much info can be a bad thing!!
With regards to the price charged for the complete job, I.O port device + splitter + call out, I don't really see any "reasonable thinking" person having an issue with this as in my opinion its about the minimum level that anyone could charge for this service, and especially so when those I.O port devices are currently being advertised by AerialSat.com at £59.99 (albeit presently out of stock) and from two of Amazons third party sellers (HD DIGI) at £69.99 and at what can only be described as the sheer profiteering price of £99.99 from BUYME.
Anyway, should I be informed of other than that stated re my findings I will post accordingly.

catherine: ITV2 is on the same transponder as ITV4, and although its not known whether or not you are using a Freesat or Sky box but "if" its of the recording variety then swap the two leads from the dish over then (if a Sky box) disconnect it from mains supply followed by powering it back up again after 30 seconds or so and allowing it to search for listings, once completed check if ITV2 has returned.
If though its a Freesat box then carry out a fresh installation, this being the one where you have to enter the post code.

B Moreton : Although its unlikely that it wouldn't be. but on the signal check you carried out make sure that you are receiving mux Ch45, this bring Plympton's COM5 as used by Sky news (82) as well as Pick TV (11) and Dave (12).
However, in order to make a proper assessment of the situation a more accurate location is required, this in the form of a post code or one from nearby as a test code using Plymptons Post Office indicated it as being under 1 mile away from the transmitter, and if you are anywhere near to this location then your aerial system would be grossly over the top and liable to overload your receiver.
Further info dependant on reply, but just in case you are not receiving from the Plympton transmitter but Caradon Hill then its COM5 is mux Ch24 and with the aerial being mounted horizontally whereas Plympton is vertical, elements up and downwards.

Gerda : If you are losing sound from all of the TVs connected into the Sky boxes RF2 then try using RF1 as all you will lose is the ability to change channels from the bedroom TV's, that is should you actually be using a magic eye facility?
However if using the RF1 output makes no difference then connect one of your bedroom TV's directly into the Sky boxes RF1 output socket and check if the sound still drops out, because if it does then that can indicate a fault on your Sky boxes RF modulator and so try resetting the box by placing it into standby for about a minute or so before switching it completely off, then after about 30 seconds powering it up again and allowing it to search for listings, giving an update on results.

Roger Bates: Problems of this nature require a "first time installation" to be carried out in order to clear everything stored in the tuners memory, this procedure also being described on some devices as a "factory reset" / "default settings" or some other similar term.

Maggie: With regards to the Freeview agent's advice, was he / she aware that your were using an indoor "same room" aerial? because with Winter Hill being located at 26 miles away its a bit of a tall order to expect satisfactory (or any) reception using an aerial located in the same room as the TV.
The Welsh programmes referred to are being received from the Moel-Y-Parc transmitter, but to test whether or not anything is being received from Winter Hill try the manual tune signal test procedure as follows.
Remove the aerial and then carry out a normal auto-tune as this will blank out the tuners memory, once completed reconnect the aerial then in the set up menu select "manual tune" and enter Winter Hills BBC mux on Ch50 but do NOT press search or scan, as on most equipment if anything is being received its signal strength and quality will be indicated on the bar, if though you see indications of around 50% or so for both strength and quality then press search or scan and storing the results.
Should that be a success then the next mux channel to enter is the ITV1 on Ch59, likewise storing the results and giving an update on same, as further advice is dependant on feedback received.

della betley: Queries of this nature should "always" be accompanied with a post code as Freeview reception in the Lincolnshire area is possible from more than one transmitting station, however "if" you are referring to the Belmont transmitter then even although engineering works are taking place at this station any possible effects of will only be evident on its FM radio transmissions and not the TV services as the work is not involved with the Freeview transmitters.

John Giles: A terrain check indicates that the signal from Belmont sweeps across towards you at a reasonably low level from about 8 miles or so prior to reaching your location, and should this be a tree lined area? then this can cause problems such as you have reported.
However as with all problems of this nature its always advisable to check with a neighbour or whoever for the purpose of determining if others are also experiencing similar problems to yourself, because if they are then this eliminates your installation as being defective as its being caused by factors out with your control.

mazbar: Many thanks for the info on the I.O port devices as I havent as yet had any dealings with them. I was also unaware that Sky had bought global, something which could well explain why a price ring has seemingly sprung up on these devices, and on your latter comment, yes! I fully understand what you are referring to and indeed might get in touch with my inside (HQ) contact in an attempt to obtain some detailed clarification on the issue albeit that you may already have more knowledge than myself on the issue, as I have recently been involved in other tasks connected with my main line of work.
