Below are all of jb38's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.Taz Bradley: Zone 2 dishes are always a better bet by them grabbing that little bit more signal from the satellite over that of a Zone1 dish, likewise are less likely to be affected by heavy thundery type rain etc.
If the position the dish is going to be mounted in has a clear view of the S / S.Easterly skyline then there shouldn't be any problems with reception.

michele: If the aerial person has indeed said that you need a "digital aerial", then I am afraid that this statement does not inspire confidence in this persons ability to properly diagnose the reason for your problem, simply because there is no such thing as a "digital" aerial, as aerials do not, and cannot ,differentiate between the different type of signals they might receive.
Unfortunately that mentioned in the 3rd paragraph of my reply on the 19th July @ 05.31pm is the only way you are going to find out what is causing your problem, that is other than having a new aerial installed complete with outlets in each of the six rooms.

michele : Just out of curiosity, when you said that the aerial person conducted a test by holding the aerial outside the front door and saying that the signal was OK, was the test aerial connected into a signal meter? or was it a TV?

landan brown: If you have tried the "disconnecting the box from the mains" procedure on more than one occasion and yet the problem remains the same, then this is inclined to point to the hard drive having failed, something which effectively ends the life of the box.
By the way, if the symptom as described had only happened now and again and it was still possible to access the menu, then you could have tried reformatting the disk as that "might" have cleared up any glitches in the system, however when its not possible to access the menu then there nothing you can really do about the situation, especially in a box as old as an FVRT150.

John Martin: Best policy!, maybe you could post an update with regards to the outcome of the visit, as I will be interested in that said by the engineer.
If though by any chance the reception problem channels referred to have now reverted back to normal? then this is liable to create a problem for the engineer, that is unless he is fully acquaint with the reception situation in your particular area, as if he isn't!, then he will up to a point be working in the dark if said problem channels are indicating well above the lower threshold cut off level.
However, if you look at the blue box on the right hand side of your posting you will see a selection of choices, click on the fifth item down "J's DigitalUK tradeview" this then taking you onto the trade reception predictor that will enable you to view the details of the reception expected from the transmitters that cover your area, namely Waltham and Belmont.
As you will no doubt see Belmont is green all the way, whereas a variable level of reception could be expected from Waltham on SDN (C29) and also similar from COM7 (HD Mux), the low powered (5Kw) L-NOT Mux also being in the category of variable.
By the way, if you hover your mouse pointer over each of the Mux channel numbers (under N) the ERP (power) that the Mux channel is operating on will appear.

Zofia: If you are referring to the Grundig GUFSAT01HD box? then retuning the box is best carried out using the following procedure.
Press "menu" and select "settings" then "first time installation", before proceeding any further you will have to enter your password, which by default is 0000, then take it from there.
By the way, the Freesat EPG listings on this box are updated automatically every time you open the menu.

steve: Watching DVD's on a TV is usually done via (as said by sharealam) either a scart cable or an HDMI lead, the socket on the TV used for this purpose being selected via the "Input select" button on the TV's remote control.
If though your DVD player is coupled into your TV's aerial socket via some form of RF modulator, then set the TV on "analogue" and carry out a retune to recover the channel.

Jon: On the assumption that your TV or box is capable of receiving HD transmissions? such as BBC1HD / ITV1HD etc, then in order to determine if any signal is being received from the COM7 transmitter on Mux33, go into the tuning menu on whatever you are using and select "manual tune", if you then enter (or select) 33 but "not" followed by pressing search or scan, the strength of any signal being received (no matter how low) will appear on the signal bars.

Bill McDonald: Thanks for the update on the situation, however, if you are receiving the other HD channels perfectly OK then in order to find out if any signal is being received from the COM7 transmitter go into your TV's (or boxes) tuning menu / manual tune followed by entering C33 into the box but NOT followed by pressing search or scan, because if anything is being received on C33 the strength and quality of will appear in the signal bars.
Further advice dependant on the outcome of the test, as the viewing of COM7 "might" still be possible even although the aerial is out of band.

Adrian Wathes: Checking the reception possibilities with reference to CV10 does indeed indicate that your Freeview reception is from Sutton Coldfield, but though!, dependant on your exact location it might also be possible to pick up signals from the Waltham transmitter, this then creating the situation where approximately 16 channels would have to be avoided.
However, rather than using your Sky boxes RF modulator on these lower channel numbers you should keep it set in the higher 60's range such as Ch64 - 68 where zero transmissions take place.
As far as your Sky box not changing channels is concerned, is your magic eye still illuminated? and does said eye fluctuate when you try to change channels using the Sky's remote control?
Finally, have you made any changes to the coax cabling between your Sky boxes RF output and the magic eye?
