Bob: Yes, and I see that Digital UK seems to have sent this transmitter clearance plan document out as a duplicate to the original but with a mistake having been corrected, insomuch that on the previous one they had indicated Tacolneston as being on 100 watts instead of 100Kw.

ra. Ostwald: Are you sure about the model number of the device in question? as on my Technisat HDFS manual its listed as a Freesat device, BBC1HD being on EPG 108.

david durney: I will be very surprised if they dont! and that is irrespective of where (distance from wise) they are located between Sudbury and yourself, as in some areas where Freeview reception has been ruined by these grossly inefficient abominations the energy company involved has provided Freesat installations to the viewers affected at no cost to themselves, not of course that I consider that adequate compensation for the loss of such a flexible system as Freeview where the one aerial can feed a number of devices, unlike Freesat that requires a separate dish feed for each location.

jackie: Although you may well have a signal showing on the check screen it depends on how strong it is or your box will only manage to receive a few channels, the guide being that the signal (both strength & quality) should not be any less than the equivalent to about 60%, as 75% is the ideal norm.
If your set up has previously been working OK then the dish could be a fraction out of alignment and with this likely to be in the horizontal plane, if the dish can be reached then have someone view the signal strength / quality whilst someone else presses the dish on the right hand side and then on the left, and if the signal is seen to rise in one of the tests then the clamp bolt should be slackened and the dish nudged in that direction.
By the way an element of slow motion should be adopted when carrying out the test, as there is always a slight lag before the result of any dish movement is seen on the screen.

David Austin: If you are referring to a 37RV555D then I don't believe that facility is available on the RV55 series albeit that it is in the RV75 ranges, it being accessible by pressing : Set up - DTV settings - standby channel update off / on, as when "on" an automatic retune starts when the set is placed in standby.
Have a look in the set up screen (or manual if you have one) and check if you see the aforementioned choice mentioned, although from memory I don't think that it will be.

Alan Maxted: The exact model number of the device in question would certainly have been of assistance, however the only way you can get over the problem is to manually tune in each of Winter Hills (@ 22 miles / 310 degrees) mux channels one at a time, then when completed make sure that auto-channel update is switched off "if" the TV offers that choice, many dont!
Winter Hill's channels being: 62(BBC) - 59(ITV) - 54(HD) - 58 - 61 - 55
The Welsh transmitter Moel Y Parc (@ 52 miles / 255 degrees) using: 45(BBC) - 49(ITV) - 42(HD) - 51 - 52 - 48.

Linda Singh: If your box has been operating perfectly OK up until now then your problem can only be caused by one of two things, the first being that its something connected with your dish or the coax from, such as some object having knocked against the dish and moved it slightly out of alignment or that the coax cable from the dish has been damaged, or maybe even that the actual LNB on the dish arm has developed a fault, as although LNB's are amazingly reliable they "can" fail. Secondly, should none of the mentioned apply, then it could be that the boxes internal power unit has developed a fault of the nature that causes a reduction in the voltage supplied to the tuner which will result in the tuner cutting out, (another known fault!) although the chances of this particular fault happening are much greater if the box is over three years old and is switched on 24/7 whilst in a confined environment such as a cabinet. Needless to say, that the only way of finding out which one of the two scenarios is applying is by either trying the box on someone else's dish or trying their box on yours, but you should give the coax feed to / from the dish a visual inspection just to make sure that nothing has happened to it, you wont of course be able to tell if the dish has been moved as it only takes the merest fraction of movement to kill off the signal. That said, it wouldn't go amiss to carry out an LNB check using the following procedure, as although its extremely uncommon for this type of thing to go wrong it cant be completely discounted. 1:- Press Sky followed by Services. 2:- Highlight System Setup (4) and press select. 3:- Press 0 then 1 then select. 4:- Press select again to access the LNB setup screen. 5:- Press the red button to re-set the default settings. 6:- Using the up/down arrows, highlight Save New Settings and press select. 7:- Press select to confirm that the settings have been reset. By the way, just for checking purposes, the correct settings for the LNB are / Low frequency - 9.75 High Frequency - 10.60 The LNB power supply should always be set to on. The 22KHz Command should always be set to on.

Jubaer: Well although you are indicated as being able to have excellent reception from the Crystal Palace transmitter at just over 11 miles away and on a bearing of 222 degrees it "appears" as though any loft mounted aerial is liable NOT to be facing the roof tiles but through the separation walls of adjacent properties, this not being a particularly desirable situation.
This being the case then I would advise you either taking up one of the quotes which to my reckoning are rather cheap, sometimes unfortunately this being followed by nasty! or alternatively making some local enquiries should you see anyone in the area getting an aerial fitted.
If you had been confident at heights then I would have recommended that you carry out the work yourself, or even try some tests using a gutter level (soffit or facia mount) but as you have expressed reservations regarding heights its best to play safe.

Dianne: Samsung makes a variety of different models and so its essential to know which model you are referring to, "plus" either your post code or one from nearby (a shop etc) as the signal levels from Waltham or any of the other stations that you can receive from cannot be assessed without this info.

sandi Kitchin: Once you recovered Dave you should resist the temptation to carry out re-scans if you find that a channel that was previously OK now gives a blank screen, because the channel will NOT have been lost from your TV or boxes memory but almost certainly WILL be if a rescan is carried out, as the only reason the screen is blank is because the signal has dropped slightly and is sitting under the level that's strong enough to produce a picture, but will do without altering anything when the level rises again.
You can prove this by carrying out a signal strength check whilst on the blank screen, then doing likewise when the picture returns, as when the screen was blank it will have been indicating a lower level.
