Edwina Waters: Nothing has been indicated as yet on the transmitter fault reporting site nor is any engineering work taking place, although in cases like this its always best policy to check with a neighbour just to make sure that the problem is not being caused by some glitch having occurred within your own installation.
By the way, you can check these two sites by clicking on "R+T Investigation" seen on the list of four choices on the right hand side of your posting, and with planned engineering works being accessed by clicking on "Digital UK tradeview" and then by placing your pointer on "Help and advice" you will see planned engineering work on the bottom of the drop down choices

linda: Although there is always a possibility that it could be the LNB but in most cases its not, however to help determine whether it is or not try swapping the two inputs over on your box, if the fault changes from LNB1 over to LNB2's signal check indicator then its either the cable / connector at fault or its indeed the LNB port, if however it remains on LNB1 then unfortunately that indicates a defect on LNB1's tuner, most unlikely though!
Leaving the two box inputs swapped over you can verify if its the LNB or not by simply swapping the two connections over "on the block", because if it is the block at fault then the fault will show up again on your boxes LNB1 input, if though it doesn't then unscrew each connector in turn from the coax and check for any signs of water having gained access, drying out with a tissue as necessary, then after having ensured that all strands of the braiding have been pulled back over the cables outer cover and screw the connectors back onto the coax then onto the LNB.
Further advice re: blocks etc dependant on findings.

colin: You can have Freeview on all TV's if you can arrange to feed the aerial straight into the Sky boxes normal aerial socket, as this will enable the Freeview signal to pass through the box as well as picking up the Sky boxes analogue modulated RF signal and with this combined output being fed into the splitter for distribution to the other TV's.
This then enables the remotely position TV's to view either Freeview or Sky dependant on whether they are set to TV or DVB, this of course being on the assumption that the TV's in question are dual standard types capable of analogue / Freeview operation.

Roger Huxtable: Your location is indicated as being able (in theory) to receive about the same level of signal from either the Guildford transmitter (@ 6 miles / 316 degrees) with aerial mounted vertically or Midhurst (@ 13 miles / 218 degrees) with the aerial being mounted horizontally? would you know which of the two applies?
The way to check being to carry out a signal test on BBC1 and note the mux channel number shown along with the strength / quality indication, Guildford being Ch43 whereas Midhurst is Ch55.
However irrespective of which of the two you are receiving from its noticed that the signal path from both sources is being obstructed by reasonably dense trees, these not just being in the immediate vicinity but at various points along the way and which could well be responsible for your problems by intermittently blocking the signal, should this be the case then a so called higher gain aerial is very likely to make the situation worse by the fact that high gain aerials are only that because they effectively focus on the signal, but if this is being obstructed / scattered by being reflected from the trees then a wider pick up aerial such as a Log type used in conjunction with a high gain variable booster is more likely to improve the situation, albeit that it will never be perfect.

Matt: What you have reported means that you are not receiving PSB2, COM4 or COM6.
You should carry out a manual tune check on these channels by going into the tuning menu / manual tune and entering mux Ch59 (ITV1 etc) into the box but NOT followed by pressing search or scan, because if a signal is being received its level should appear on the signal strength indicator.
If it does, note whatever it is then change the number in the box mux Ch58 (ITV3 etc) noting whatever seen, finally change the number to mux Ch55 (Film4 etc) and once again noting the level of anything seen and giving an update on results. It will though be interesting to find out if others in your block are also being similarly affected, because going by what you have reported I do have my doubts if they are.
Maybe you could also let me have the model number of your TV / box.

Matt: Maybe, but the point about the test was that you do NOT press search, as by not doing so makes the tuner act like a signal meter free of level restrictions whereas as soon as you press search its not, this being due to the reception threshold level circuitry taking over whereby a signal under a certain level will not be stored by the tuners memory.
By the way the signal check screen is accessed via: Menu / set up/ diagnostics, although LG menu systems when compared to say a Panasonic etc cannot in the very remotest sense be said to user friendly, quite the opposite!

Roy Peebles: Sky can only stop a viewer from receiving Sky package channels when they cancel their contract, but however they will block access to the recording / playback side of the box unless a further contract is taken out (@ £10.25 per month) to enable a viewer to retain use of the recorder.

Roy Peebles: Just to clarify, you will of course still be able to view all the free channels exactly as presently done, although anyone intending to cancel their contract with Sky can easily find out which channels they will still be able to view by simply removing the card from the box.
That said though, there are a few odd channels (not part of a package) which although free still require the card to be inserted because they are encrypted e.g: Sony TV 157, although you needn't worry about these because you would still have the card inserted into the box anyway.

Matt: By mentioning apartment then that could suggest that you might be on a communal aerial system, if you are then have you checked with any of your neighbours to find out if they are also experiencing similar problems to yourself?
The other point being, that you are indicated as being extremely close to the Manchester Hulme relay which is a PSB only station, this making me wonder if you are tuned to this relay? i.e: you do NOT receive ITV3, Pick TV or Film4?
