Neil: Just noticed that the link indicating the terrain between Crystal Palace and your updated location is defective and so this is a replacement.

H King: Your problem is most likely being caused by Redruths mux Ch52 having dropped under the level required to produce a picture, and so provided that you have not retuned for any reason select one of the programmes mentioned and carry out a signal strength on it, as even although the screen is blank the signal will still be there.

The other method is to go into the tuning menu / manual tune and enter mux Ch52 but do NOT follow this by pressing search or scan, because on most equipment as soon as Ch52 is entered the signal strength its being received at should be indicated.

After having noted the indications seen on Ch52 enter mux Ch48 (ITV3 etc) and compare its strength / quality indications with that obtained on Ch52.

Further advice dependant on the outcome of the test.

joe: At the same time as you are cancelling your contract with Sky you will have to inform them that you wish to retain the recording / playback facilities on your box, something which can only be achieved if you take out a new contract at around £10.25 per month otherwise Sky will disable your access to this side of the box at around the same time as you lose your ability to view package channels.

Sky will then either amend your card to allow this to be done minus your ability to view Sky's dedicated package channels, or alternatively they might just issue you with a new card.

Keith Nickol: If you are receiving Freeview from the Crystal Palace transmitter then either go into your TV or boxes set up menu / tuning and select "update channels", or alternatively carry out a "manual tune" on mux Ch25 and this should correct the problem.

By the way, EPG 20 the Drama channel is on the same mux transmitter as ITV3.

John H Williams : As you would appear to be receiving Freeview from the Dolgellau PSB only station then the simple answer to your question is that the situation will not change as far as limited channels are concerned, the reason basically being that these missing channels are all profit making commercial channels which are only being transmitted in the first place by the main stations because the returns expected from advertising exceeds the running costs of the service, however in areas such as yours the reverse of the situation applies due to the limited number of homes served by the transmitter whereby the costs of running the service would outweigh the returns expected.

Its exactly the same situation why major retailers generally decline invitations to open a store in small area, i.e: they would be running at a loss from day one.

donna: Paul is correct in what he has said insomuch that your reception will be from the Tacolneston transmitter as you are outwith West Runtons service area, Tacolneston being listed in the engineering notice board as being liable to interruption at random times for the week commencing today 08/07/2013.

john: You cannot split a connection from a satellite dish in the same way as done with Freeview devices because satellite boxes communicate with the dishes LNB for the purpose of band as well as polarity switching, this achieved by the box sending two levels of DC plus a 22Khz tone as you change channels.

Freeview devices do not communicate with anything.

john: Meant also to say that if you wish to use two separate sat boxes then you will require to change the LNB to a dual or quad type, although only quad types are fitted nowadays as these can be obtained from numerous e-bay outlets for around £10.00 or so, then all you require to do is run another lead from the LNB to wherever your second box is located.

Have a study at the LNB thats fitted on your dish just in case a multi-outlet type is already fitted.

john: If you box was working before you made the alteration to the coax from the LNB's outlet then you must have accidentally shorted the cable when you reconnected the ends together, check to make sure that a single strand of the braiding has shorted onto the middle connector.
