Heather: And in addition to that said by Dave Lindsay, although the chances are that the sockets fitted in the other rooms will be as standard, but it would be prudent to check them out just to make sure that they are normal female coax sockets and "not" a short threaded stub, this type being for satellite purposes and which can sometimes be found to have been fitted in new properties, although usually more so when of the apartment variety.

roger willoughby: You should try going back into the set up procedure and and look for anything referring to "picture" or "screen" and check that widescreen is selected.

You should also check that similar is selected on the Virgin box, should that be adjustable on your particular version of V box!

Matthew: According to the terrain indicator the signals received in your area from both Emley Moor (@ 9.94 mls 302 degrees) / and Sheffield (@ 10.56 mls 192 degrees) are seen to suffer from obstructions starting from around 2 miles or so prior to your location, and with this being the likely reason why aerials in your locality are seen to be pointing at different angles, although Sheffield radiating on vertical polarity (elements up and down) would seem to be the preferred option by most.

Its really a case of which station your aerial is facing towards and where is it located? (loft or roof) remembering that if its mounted vertically (elements up and down) then that will be dedicated to Sheffield.

I would be inclined to carry out a "factory reset" on your TV or box then manually tune in Ch39 and storing the results, once completed use the "add channels" facility (if it has one) to capture the remaining Mux channels.

MikeB: Yes, I also had my doubts about this and why I had requested the model number, as the only one I knew about was an older 32LF7700 model manufactured in 2009, and which owners of were subsequently supplied with a separate Freesat box because of them being unable to access the BBC iplayer, to name but one difficulty!

Rachel: The reason for your TV having lost Film4 when switched off was simply due to the TV's tuner having picked up more channels than its memory store system could hold, excess channels being held in a temporary but volatile memory store but which is fully reliant on a permanent power source, needless to say this permanent power source being lost when you switched the set off hence the reason for the channels being lost

By the way, the "factory reset" procedure wipes everything stored in the tuners memory, "factory reset" also being known as "default setting" or "first time installation" dependant on brand.

As far as analogue channels are concerned, as this mode is no longer used in the UK then you may possibly be picking up the RF output from a Sky + boxes modulator.

Kev T.: Try connecting the aerial directly into your PVR as what you have reported is inclined to indicate that the tuners RF input circuitry is being overloaded by an excessively high signal level being fed into it.

MRS S: Nothing has been reported as yet in regards to any problems having occurred with the Oxford transmitter, I would be inclined to leave it for an hour or so and if the situation hasn't improved check with a neighbour or whoever to find out if others are also experiencing similar difficulties with their reception.

Further advice dependant on feedback.

Peter Western: No problem! as I fully appreciate that is not always possible for someone to be in a position to acknowledge a reply.

Hope that you manage it OK!

MikeB: Sorry for the slight delay in replying, however having now viewed the content of both links I am inclined to agree with your suspicions as to the possible reason for Tony Lee's jumbled up channel problem, insomuch that the LG TV in question might well have been fitted with a generic satellite tuner and "not" a dedicated to Freesat type, as the symptoms described by Tony L are exactly what one would expect after having carried a tuning exercise on a standard generic satellite receiver.

Of course this now raising the question, and being, if the LG is actually new as in "brand new" and not just newly acquired from some source, then I am even more curious as to its model number simply for the purpose of being able to check its specifications, something which I am unable to do as yet by the fact of no further updates having been made.

pete: indications are that you reside in an area whereby reception from any of the four main stations can be somewhat iffy, most of the aerials seen around your area being vertically mounted and facing towards the local Faversham PSB only station, the station you mentioned (Bluebell Hill) being indicated as only being able to provide variable reception on all of its six multiplexes and with the remaining stations offering a combination of the occasional good but with variable to poor being the norm.

Although further advice can certainly be given on this as reception predictions can have a wide margin of error, but considering the fact that you are already equipped with an operational satellite feed then why don't you just purchase a Freesat box and save yourself a load of hassle! as Freesat boxes are 100% compatible with Sky dish systems.

With regards to the Sky box, is it a Sky+ type or just a standard box?
