DaveG: Judging by what you have reported would suggest that the best policy would be to carry out a factory reset followed by carrying out a normal Freesat retune, both options achieved by pressing "menu" then selecting and pressing on the third icon down, the dish.
The other thing I would check is to make sure that the quad LNB you fitted is a standard universal 9.75 / 10.6GHz version and not some oddball device.
By the way, "if" your dish is perfectly aligned then the only thing that can cause picture break up is if its view of the skyline is being obstructed by tree foliage of any sort, or should this not apply then possible water contamination in one of the LNB's "F" connectors.

DaveG: Thanks for the update, however as far as your factory reset / Freesat rescan is concerned if the dish is correctly aligned and with it having an unobstructed view of the Skyline then it shouldn't really matter what like the weather is when you carry out a rescan, thundery downpours excepted!, but though I am beginning to suspect that your problems are possibly being caused by a defect on your box and so I would like you to try the undermentioned test.
Go into the Freesat retune menu and alter the post code to one I use for a test then carry out a retune, once completed select Ch103 then on the set up menu select "diagnostics" (System 4th icon down) and check that the frequency shown under the signal bars is10758 V 22000 5/6, if OK back out of the menu and change the channel to Ch101 then repeat the diagnostic test and checking that 10773 H 22000 5/6 is seen, finally select Pick TV on Ch144 and with the indications on that channel being12.207 V 27500.
If still OK then select BBC1HD on Ch108 with the diagnostic check indicating 10847 V 23000 2/3, ITV1HD (Ch119) indicating 10832 H 22000 5/6
By the way, what size is the hard drive on your model? this question purely to get an idea of the boxes age.

John McCann: Tonbridge Wells (@ 9.1 mls / 218 degrees) would appear to be a better bet for reception as the signal from Heathfield (@ 19.1 mls / 218 degrees) suffers from a number of obstructions starting from approximately 13 miles out, the obstruction referred to being seen by opening the undermentioned links indicating the signal path from both transmitters.
By the way, if the aerial was repositioned to suit Tunbridge Wells it would also require to be swivelled around by 90 degrees to its vertical mounting position, rather than as at present of horizontal.

anne: Its extremely difficult for anyone to offer advice with such a limited amount of information being given, however if you have your own dish then it might have been accidentally knocked out of alignment, but should you be connected into a communal dish system then check with a neighbour to find out if they are being similarly affected.
You should also try swapping the two input input feeds (LNB1 / LNB2) over and see if this restores reception, if it does then there is a defect on the cable going into LNB2's input.
By the way, the problem is not connected to the hard drive.

John McCann : Yes, as Dave L has indicated no retuning is necessary, however the only slight impediment that I can see and which "might" possibly affect reception from TW is that the signal path from same is partially clipped by the Southern edge of the mini forest to the West of your property, this being something which could (but not definitely) introduce the summer / winter effect into reception dependant on the nature and height of the trees involved, but other than that possibility TW would suggest as providing a more stable signal to that via the multiple obstructions to the signal path from the Heathfield transmitter.
By the way, that said is based on the P/Code location being accurate, as its well known not always to be when associated with country areas.

David Cromwell: According to DUK no engineering work is taking place at the Rowridge transmitter and as such there isn't any reason why you should not be receiving an HD signal, therefore in order to double check that your TV is indeed fitted with a DVB-T2 tuner this can be checked out if you supply the model number of the device in question.

David Cromwell: Apologies for the delay in replying, the reason for being that although I do have the manual for this set its unfortunately up to the standard of most LG manuals, insomuch of being totally ambiguous to the extent that it doesn't positively state that it can receive DVB-T2 transmissions, and although the LG customer service department may well have said that its fully HD capable this does not necessarily mean that its fitted with a DVB-T2 tuner which is necessary for HD reception, the term "fully HD" generally meaning that a device is capable of displaying a full HD image via an external device when coupled into its HDMI input sockets.
The other point being, that by the set being a discontinued model it makes it somewhat difficult to get bang up to date information, but going by the various comments made by people who own this model would strongly suggest that its simply a standard Freeview set and not one capable of receiving UK HD transmissions, this being backed up by what you have reported.
I will though make further enquiries.

David Cromwell : If you open the link provided by Dave Lindsay then click on "view all 60 reviews" the review made on October 8th by user name: "snitch" on the bottom of page 12 confirms that this model is not fitted with a DVB-T2 HD tuner, the reviewer admitting to having made an incorrect assumption about the meaning of full HD and with LG having said that a Freeview HD box would be required for reception of HD programmes.

J Peter Wilson : Yes, but though, and without wishing to appear too pessimistic, its really a case of how long will the signal from this relatively low powered transmitter last for before dropping well under the threshold for reception? that is when taking into account that through experience of the area I am aware that the signal in the Bridlington area from Belmont's higher powered transmitters can suffer from quite considerable fluctuations in level at certain times of the year caused by the changing atmospheric / terrain conditions.
What you should do is to carry out a signal test on Estuary TV (mux Ch27) and make a note of its strength / quality indications for future reference purposes, as this can then be used for comparison checks should reception start to deteriorate around March or so next year, "if" reception from same lasts that long!

Dale: Although as MikeP has suggested the problem certainly seems to be caused by a software issue, however on checking back postings I dont see you having mentioned the exact model number of the Sky box in question, therefore purely out of curiosity I would be interested to know what's printed on the ID plate?
