Ian: Re; Yesterday. Yes, this seems to be the way of overcoming the necessity of requiring a viewing card for this channel.
Tested out by disconnecting the Sky box from the mains followed by removing the viewing card from same before powering it up again, checking that 537 was still coming up as "channel unavailable" after the box went through its usual "searching for listings" procedure.
This then followed by entering the "add channels" menu, punching in : 12.129V - 27.5 - 2/3 then selecting "find channels", on completion of storing "Yesterday" from the others listed.

Coach: Channel 4HD is broadcast by the PSB3 multiplex, as are channels (45) Film+1 / 101 to 105 / (123) CBBC HD, are these channels also being affected?

David Field: It would appear that your TV has locked onto the channels broadcast by the Mendip transmitter rather than Wenvoe, the way of getting around the problem being by deleting all stored in the tuners memory system followed by carrying out a "Manual" tune of the Muxes used by Wenvoe.
The procedure being to carry out an auto-tune on your TV "after" having first of all removed the TV's aerial input connection, this action blanking out everything previously stored in the tuner, checking the success of same by witnessing "no signal" on any attempt to select a channel.
The next stage being to go into the tuning menu / manual tune, then entering the following channels used by Wenvoe one at a time.

Gordon Hargest: In answer to your three questions:
(1) All Sky boxes can be used to receive Freesat programmes without any modifications being required.
(2) Very few "non dedicated subscription" programmes exist that actually requires the use of a viewing card, Sony TV (157) or Yesterday (537) being the only two that immediately springs to mind, the other purpose the card serves is to provide the viewer with news services appropriate to the area that they reside in, as the "minus the card" default area is London.
By the way, standard viewing cards cost in the region of a one time payment of 25.00.
(3) The recording and playback side of a Sky box is disabled by Sky on cancellation of the contract, that is unless a new subscription is taken out at time of cancellation purely for the purpose of retaining the facility. the problem for some being, that the charge for this (dubious?) privilege of using the box for this purpose was around 10.00 per month, I say "was", as it might well have been increased in recent times, many viewers opting to go along the Freesat line at this point by purchasing a Freesat HD twin tuner PVR which provides facilities similar to the Sky+ HD box, the Sky dish and connections from being 100% compatible with all Freesat devices.
There is though one other point to mention, being that HD reception on a Sky+ HD box minus a subscription being in force is only possible on the main PSB HD channels and one or two others excluding Ch5.
You can of course get an idea of what you will or will not, be able to view by removing your viewing card and running through the channels normally viewed, a "please insert viewing card" message being displayed on any that requires a viewing card being inserted. This test being more accurate if the box is first of all disconnected from the mains to delete anything stored in its memory, the viewing card being removed from same "before" the box is powered up again.

R Todd : NR31 is not suffice to enable access to fault reporting info on transmitter stations, as the partial post code given indicates reception as being possible (in theory) from more that one station, therefore either a full post code or one from somewhere nearby, such as a shop / post office, is required.

Pam Butler : Fully agree with MikeP's recommendation, two examples of the type of aerial referred to seen by opening the undermentioned link, both of (DM18 or Log36) being entirely suitable for the purpose intended.
That said, Chesterfield can be a very iffy area for reception dependant on where a person happens to reside, the problem basically caused by the nature of the terrain, i.e: very hilly within short distances, plus its also an area rich in vegetation in the form of numerous trees, a combination of both having the potential of creating problems with reception.
However, if you are aware that reception is possible in your area? and that the line of sight to the transmitter (located on top of the hill) is not completely blocked by either of that mentioned, then the aerials referred to in the first paragraph will be perfectly suffice for your requirements.

Tony Dix: Basically because the output from Rowridges three COM channels is restricted in the West/ North Westerly direction to avoid causing interference to Stockland Hill, this stations COM's transmitting on the same frequency as Rowridge, albeit being slightly offset from the centre frequency to help avoid being affected by the latter.

Tony Dix: Also meant to say, that this is why no coverage prediction levels are seen under Rowridge's COM channels on digitaluk's trade chart, accessed by clicking on same in the blue boxes under your posting, reception of these channels officially listed as not being possible in the area in question.

Alan Betteney: Have you retuned as yet? as the horror channel was initially broadcast on Bilsdales COM6 / Mux C40, but has now moved to COM4 / MuxC43 as used by ITV3 (10) / Vintage TV (242) and a host of others, LCN 792 now being an invalid channel.
The fact of the on-screen message is the up to date info.

js: Yes, you are quite correct on this point. I decided to try another test by disconnecting the box from the mains supply then removing the card from same before powering it up again, findings being, that although Drama and Really still worked OK the box did not recognise 537/538 as being a channel, reinstalling the card (a standard non-sub viewing type) restoring both.
