Steve: Its not really possible for anyone to be in the position of offering advice unless your location is known, this being in the form of a post code or one from somewhere nearby, e.g: such as a shop / post office, although preferably the latter.

Chris : Thanks for the update, the content of somewhat confirming my initial suspicion of Sky's customer rep having possibly misled you about subscription free retention of the recording /playback side of your Sky+ HD box.

By the way, did they by any chance mention what their latest charge (per month) is for those that are willing to pay to retain this facility?

Sue price: BBC South West is transmitted by six main stations and numerous (too numerous to mention) relays, therefore, its not really possible for anyone to check the status of the transmitter that covers your area unless your location is known, this preferably being in the form of a post code or one from a nearby, e.g: a shop/post office.

Have you as yet ascertained if others (neighbours etc) in your area are also affected by reception problems? another factor being whether or not you are connected into a communal aerial system?

Jo: True Crime (60) is only broadcast by main stations covering larger area's of the population on whats known as a "local multiplex", neither Caradon Hill nor Plympton operating a local service.

mark : The NN4.8 etc areas of Northampton are notorious for suffering from periods of erratic reception, basically due to the signal path from the Sandy mast suffering from multiple (and sizeable) line of sight obstructions starting from approximately 10 miles prior to said location.

Unfortunately there is nothing a viewer can really do to overcome this type of problem except by pointing their aerials towards the Dallington Park Freeview "light" relay.

The L.O.S obstruction referred to can be seen by opening the undermentioned link.

Jim johnston: No, as Freeview TV's which are also capable of Freesat satellite reception are fitted with two tuners, one for each operating mode, therefore you will have to ensure that any TV you are interested in has the two operating modes listed in the specifications for same.

Apart from that said, if you are browsing around the TV's displayed in larger "walk round" department stores you can tell which models are capable of satellite reception simply by looking at the sockets on the rear of the sets , models capable of satellite reception being fitted with a threaded male socket as well as the usual female coaxial socket.

Of course, its assumed that you are aware that a satellite dish is required for Freesat reception?.

Michael Hawkins : Yes that correct, as Llangeinor was originally a BBC site with analogue TV channels 1 - 3 entering service on 19th July 1974, S4C being available from 1st November 1982. Digital switch over being on the 3rd and 31st of March 2010.

Sue: As no faults are listed against the Bluebell Hill transmitter nor is any engineering work taking place at same, it would be prudent to check with other residents (neighbours) in the row to ascertain if they are also experiencing similar problems with the reception of BBC channels, especially if as appearances would suggest, your mother is connected into a communal aerial system.
