Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter
Sunday 22 December 2013 11:21PM

Adrian: BBC4 HD (106) along with BBC News HD (107) transmit on COM7 Mux C31 which is out of band grouping to all the other channels broadcast by Winter Hill, therefore if 2 years ago a group C/D aerial was installed on your property then its efficiency starts to taper off from C48 downwards, and this coupled to the COM7 transmitter only radiating on 14Kw could result in the level of signal received being too low for the box, as the aerial should really be wideband to cover the channel spread used by the Winter Hill transmitter.

If though you already have a wideband aerial fitted then its possibly just the case that the signal received is simply under the level required to resolve a picture and requires boosting, you can test this by carrying out a manual tune on C31 but NOT pressing search or scan after having entered C31 into the box, as the strength the signal is being received at should be displayed on the strength / quality bar.

Adrian : If you can see the end of the horizontal crossbeam that holds the elements check what colour of plastic blanking plug is fitted on the end of the support arm, if its green then you have a group C/D aerial whereas if black its wideband.

BBC Four HD
Monday 23 December 2013 7:49AM

Rob Dewey: BBC4 HD will be transmitting on COM7 Ch32 from Ridge Hill, but this mux transmitter is not due to come into service until 2014 hence why you are unable to receive it.

Matt: Provided that the feed from the dish is still operational then you do not require to do anything to receive the "free to view" channels as they are not dependant on anything being connected into the box with the exception of the coax feed from the dish being connected into the LNB1 position, if though you are using a Sky+ box then the LNB2 input does not require to be connected into the dish as its mostly used for recording purposes but which will not now apply since you cancelled the subscription.

The box will even work without the Sky card being inserted, as now the only purpose it serves is to enable you to view the correct regional news services for your area plus Sony TV (157), as although this a free channel the programme is encrypted.

Ian Farrow : As far as I am aware, the problem was caused by a tree having fallen across the power line feed to the station thereby killing the power supply to same.

Linda: If the disconnecting from the mains procedure has not resolved the problem then the next step is to try a "new installation" as per the undermentioned instructions.

1 : Press "Services" on your Sky remote and you'll see the "Options" menu highlighted.

2 : Press the right arrow to select "Settings" then press on same.

3 : Press (in smooth succession) " 0 - 1 - Select" to view the set up screen.

4 : Press the right arrows to highlight "Install" which then changes to "New Install" then press "select".

5: Follow the instructions on your TV screen until you see the message"Installation Complete" displayed then press select.

Further info dependant on feedback..

That said is on the assumption that you have tried swapping the two input feed cables over whilst the box was disconnected from the mains?

Jeanette Nicholson: Could you please clarify with regards to you having mentioned that you do NOT have an aerial? because should this be the case then you cannot receive Freeview channels albeit that you can Sky via the boxes RF2 output using the procedure as described by Chris hall.

Nuala: Not sure whats meant by "mini TV satellite signal"?, but where satellite reception is concerned a "no signal" or any other form of difficulty with reception is "always" caused by a problem associated with the installation.

Further advice can only be given with knowledge of the type / brand model of the equipment being referred to.

Full technical details of Freeview

Clare Gebel: If indeed you are receiving Freeview from the Crystal Palace transmitter, the doubt being as Sudbury is indicated as providing a better signal, and so to determine which transmitter you are receiving from carry out a signal strength / quality check whilst you are viewing BBC1, noting the mux channel number seen along with the indicator bars and cross referencing it with the sources listed, the ITV1 mux numbers given being each stations match for the BBC.

By the way, when you say that the signal is split two ways then what way is this achieved, is it via a two way powered splitter? if it is then try temporarily by-passing the splitter.

Crystal Palace : BBC (23) - ITV1 (26)
Bluebell Hill : BBC (46) - ITV1 (43)
Sudbury : BBC (44) - ITV1 (41)
Dover : BBC1 (50) - ITV1 (51).

Hannington (Hampshire, England) transmitter
Friday 27 December 2013 10:13AM

Steve Swift: Re: C32, as this transmitter is not due to go into service until around March next year then you are presently viewing a test transmission, therefore continuity of reception cannot be guaranteed as the signal could vanish at any time dependant on the nature of the engineering work being carried out.
