Nicky: Just noticed that you posted a question yesterday. With regards to the Digi-sender has it been plugged into the Sky boxes scart socket or the TV's? because if it was the latter then thats why the TV has to be left on, which it shouldn't need to be if the Digi-sender was plugged into the Sky box.

Or is it that you dont you have an aerial connection on the upstairs TV and thats why the Digi-sender its plugged into the lounge TV?

Gordon Nicol: Many people who use Crystal Palace HD has experienced this problem, and which is caused by Sandy's MuxA having on 31st of August started to transmit on the same Mux Ch31 channel as is used by Crystal Palace HD service, and although listed as being on a temporary basis, this "temporary" status lasts until 18th of April next year.

Sandy's Mux Ch31 is listed as only being 20Kw, but I feel its a rather generous 20Kw as its other two Muxes rated as being on the same power are virtually zero in my area. (Near to Stamford)

Matt: This is the problem with reception predictions made on post codes, as quite often a post code can cover quite a large area, and if that area is in a category of being difficult, then any predictions seen are only really approximate indications of what's liable to be expected, as there is no substitute for an on-site test being made.

This of course as demonstrated by your own findings.

Chardy: You will not be able to use the record side of the box unless you pay a £10.00 monthly subscription to Sky, nor will you be able to view ITV programmes (5* etc)in some areas without purchasing a "Free to view" card from Sky, it costing £25.00 for an indefinite period.

You will though be able to view HD on these channels, but not Sky HD programmes.

James: A TV capable of displaying HD images has to be digital, although most of the TV's seen in any store are still capable of receiving analogue signals as well as digital Freeview ones, with a number of higher end TV's also having Freesat tuners as well as Freeview and analogue ones.

I can only assume that you might have a analogue widescreen TV and you are associating that with HD, which of course it isn't!

James: To fully clarify the situation, what brand / model is the TV in question?

Mark: Have you checked to verify that the HD channel you are receiving is from Keighley and not Oxenhope or even possibly Emley Moor? Keighley HD being on Mux Ch54 / Oxenhope is Mux Ch28 / Emley Moor on Mux Ch41, albeit this being forecast as poor for your area.

Should you find that the HD channel isn't Keighley, then I would take the attenuators out of line and carry out a re- tune "without" the aerial installed, this to blank out the channels stored, then "before" reconnecting the aerial again carry out another re-tune whilst at the same time observing the channels rising in the progress bar, then as soon as you see Ch50 immediately plug the aerial back in again to enable Keighley to load.

kenneth wilson: As you are only five miles away from Sutton Coldfield its very likely that your signal is too strong and is overloading the tuner in your TV.

If you have any booster fitted it must be removed, should you not though, then you will have to purchase a simple attenuator to place in line with your TV's aerial socket, as that should instantly cure the problem.

If you have a set top aerial around, just for a test you should try that.

lyn spencer: Your post code indicates Cirencester as being poor for reception, Mendip and Oxford being far superior.

As switchover stage two is taking place at Oxford tomorrow as well as a re-tune event at Mendip, I would wait until later on in the day before altering anything, then carry out a factory reset / retune.

The problem you might experience is that Oxford and Mendips channels are interwoven between the two stations, so you may have to use manual tuning to get what's required, info on procedure will be given if this be required.

James: Thanks for the info on the TV, I suppose that I should really have initially enquired as to the model of device you were referring to, as to be perfectly honest about it I (and also a couple of work colleagues I mentioned this to) was totally unaware that Pioneer actually made a device such as this, and what in effect is really a digital monitor but with the addition of an analogue tuner, which I may say could be considered as a bit oddball in the technical sense, as more modern LCD / Plasma screen TV's with an analogue reception capability are also equipped with Freeview tuners as a minimum, the analogue being up to a point an add on!

Anyway, I have had a good study at its technical spec and it appears as though it can do what you require if you are intending to go ahead with the dish for the Sky+ HD box. The only thing I would say is, that during fishing about for info on that model I have also seen a number of people having experienced unsolvable problems when using the HDMI connection between it and the Sky+ HD box, Pioneer no longer offering assistance as far as software updates are concerned.

I would therefore suggest that before going ahead with the dish you should purchase an HDMI lead and couple the box up to the Pioneer, as you will at least be able to use the Sky boxes services menu to give you an idea if all is OK with the coupling between the two devices.

By the way, don't pay anymore than about £10.00 max for the HDMI lead, this no matter what fanciful claims about performance you might see on much higher priced cables.
