Should you manage that, do NOT be tempted to try any further re-scans at any time until after you have sorted the problem out, as all you would do is to lose what has been stored in your boxes memory locations.
Re-scans should only really be carried out after any transmitter updating alterations etc, albeit that most people do make the mistake of automatically carrying out a re-scan at the first sign of their signal going down, this resulting in them having to carry out frequent re-scans to try and recover the lost channels, as they wont come back once lost from the memory, whereas if they had just things as they were the channel (s) would have returned of their our accord.

Jerome: The card is only required for some ITV channel areas as well as 5* and a few others, the channels that you mentioned not requiring it.
If the card is cancelled by Sky at any time you can always purchase a new one for about £25.00 or so if done and activated via a UK address and phone number, the latter used for activation, and once done it reputedly lasting for 5 years or so.
Not sure about Sky cancelled contract cards working in more than one box, but my £25.00 free viewing from Sky card works in other boxes, as I have two spare Sky boxes and it works in all three of them.

Malc Wyles: These programmes are on MuxD (Ch42) and on one of the three Mux channels that is presently very difficult to receive anywhere to the East of Waltham, this reportedly due to power restrictions towards the East, even although that is once again the trade predictor is showing fanciful levels of reception from these Mux's in many areas near to your own location.
There is a number of people just slightly up the road (Stubton / Claypole area's) from your village that use Belmont as their primary transmitter, and I was just wondering if you have actually tried that before your aerial was set for Waltham? just asking though, as come switchover the situation might rectify itself.

Ed: I note that your first posting was under the Crystal Palace heading, but as your reception possibilities indicate that you are capable of receiving signals from Hemel Hempstead (less HD) and Sandy (first three Mux's) as well as Crystal palace, you will really have to check what the Mux's channel numbers are that you are receiving, this done in the signal strength/quality section within your tuning menu
If you are receiving from Crystal Palace the two Mux channels you complain about should be shown as Ch22(ITV1 etc) & Ch32(ITV3 etc) and it would be of help to know what these channels are showing level wise.
There is also a remote possibility that your box has a fault in its memory store, although this would be more likely to show up if the channels didn't appear when the box was first brought out of its standby position, rather than go off whilst viewing the channels concerned.

l read: If you are referring to "free to view" channels via a Sky satellite box, then if he resets the box by pulling the mains plug out and waiting about 10 secs or so before re-inserting same, then once it starts to respond to the Sky button being pressed lets it go through its "searching for listings" procedure, channel 5 (105) should then have returned to normal.

Jerome: Five used to be encrypted but not nowadays, its only 5* (Five star) that still requires a card to be able to view it, and as aforementioned no card being necessary for all the other channels you have mentioned.

Mike Dimmick: Thanks for that info, although I am located well into the lime green zone under Part Network and it doesnt require any card being installed where I am.

andrew: Basically no! as although terrestrial digital signals can pass through the sky boxes (or whatever) RF in/out sockets this doesn't extend to the RF signal generated within the actual box, as its purely analogue.

j bond: Thanks for the update etc.
Trade (or any) predictors can never really accurately cater for what it is actually receivable in real life, that is when dealing with reception in an area that's considered to be problematic, however what you have done as far as experimenting with the aerial is concerned (raising it etc) can frequently bring results, as indeed obviously applies in your case.
Of course the only thing that has always to be kept in mind is, that the signal received "might" only be possible because of a reflected signal, so continuity of reception is never really guaranteed throughout an entire season.
