Lesley Devlin.Unless you leave a full postcode,we cannot be of much help to you.
But if you want to take up Sky TV then go for it,or you could opt for Freesat and if you are wealthy enough Cable TV/Virgin Media if that is provided in your locality.

Luke Bellamy.Ware,SG12 0XY.
Your second and last paragraph at least could be down to atmospherics/inversion effect due to the recent brief settled spell due to end very soon.
As for your first paragraph if you do receive transmissions directly from Crystal Palace itself is your aerial horizontally polarised and if so is it a group A type Yagi or group A type X-Beam aerial as such (red coloured tips). One possibility could be that BBCB (HD) multiplex generally are more prone to picture pixellations, break ups and No Signal mode than the present five remaining SD multiplexes.

Sandy Heath, Sudbury, Heathfield, 9 relays have extra retunes o

I always retune at least once a week minimum, sometimes i have to perform wee tests where i have no option but to delete my current set up to assist others on this forum, for example retuning temporarily to another nearby transmitter and checking if that particular mast is functioning as it should be.I always take my set-top box,set-top aerial and amplifier with me everywhere i stay for a week or more.Last week i stayed in Barnsley,S71 5BT location (my brother's rented abode),conducted tests and only Emley Moor broadcasts were available albeit indoor set-top aerial reception (with/without booster) there was mostly unsatisfactory with occasional pixellations on all mux's.No Belmont,Winter Hill or even Bilsdale there. Now on my hols (between 23-30 June 2012) in St Annes on Sea,FY8 1HW location, had to retune due to different regional programming, the establishment im staying at is served with a communal aerial aimed at Winter Hill, perfect reception there, yet BBCA (BBC1 Wales) from Moel-Y-Parc on frequency 45 (in the 800's) largely badly pixellated yet no signal with amplification.
Yet with my set-top aerial in without signal booster first, nothing from Moel-Y-Parc whatsoever but once the amplifier was powered on my set-top aerial once i found that sweet spot picked up both the BBCA on fr 45 and D3+4 (ITV1 Wales/S4C) on fr 49 multiplexes from Moel-Y-Parc mast perfectly 100% quality,69% strength both, even BBCB (HD) mux on fr 42 0% quality,69% strength despite my set-top box being non-HD can be attainable in my current temporary location. But the commercial multiplexes from Moel-Y-Parc however was less satisfactory SDN on fr 51,ArqA on fr 52 and ArqB on fr 48 all were badly pixellated, this was with my set-top aerial/amplifier on.
So yes it does pay to retune ones set-top box every week minimum, and obviously i have to retune yet again upon my arrival back in Halifax soon as Winter Hill transmissions there are rather unsatisfactory and no way will Moel-Y-Parc be available there.

Andrew,IP6.Try the reset procedure first, then unplug aerial from appliance concerned and perform automatic scan.It will pick up zero channels yet clears your appliance's previous memory. Now after this plug aerial back in and this time perform a manual scan for all of Sudbury multiplexes,it should now work.

Daniel Badman.Hastings TN35 5EF.
Thanks for correcting me concerning your location,i sometimes make wee errors in leaving a nearby location when i assist others on this forum as such.
As for your earlier text dated Thursday 28 June 2012,8.48pm,was there a brief electrical fault or a thunderstorm in your locality that caused the brief loss of signal you mentioned while you watched the footy ?

Mike B,Hull.
As Dave Lindsay suggests for Belmont you may have to replace your old group A (red tipped) aerial for a group W wideband (black tipped) aerial,or for extra gain on the lower frequencies (group A ones) either retain your old group A aerial or buy a new group A aerial, then diplex with a group W wideband aerial.
However the 2020 scenario for Belmont is still opaque at present for if the 700mhz clearance does take effect then, the ArqA on frequency 53 and ArqB on frequency 60 from Belmont will have to relocate elsewhere. There is a possible rumour if the 2020 scenario did happen that Belmont by then could revert back to an all group A transmitter so group W wideband aerials will obviously at a future date be replaced due to their poor performance on group A frequencies, especially on an all group A transmitter in a poor reception or marginal reception area on that particular mast concerned.Either that or Belmont could possibly instead become a group K transmitter (utilising grey tipped aerials),or even but most unlikely a group B transmitter (using yellow tipped aerials).
Although not confirmed as such there is a remote likelyhood that Belmont if the 2020 scenario did occur could switch either to dual horizontal and vertical polarity,or even to vertical polarisation only. But i will stress this is only a remote possibility itself !

Mrs Baker.Ipswich.Have you cleared your appliance's memory prior to rescanning by resetting your apparatus as such.Did you afterwards unplugged the aerial from your appliance concerned by performing an automatic scan and finding no channels as such, this procedure erases the previous memory as such. And after this after you plugged in the aerial back into the appliance in question did you perform a manual scan instead of an automatic scan as such.Manual scanning if your appliance allows it performs a much better job of storing the located frequencies as such than an automatic scan which often either misses frequencies or stores a frequency from a different transmitter/relay mast.
