Yes,the likely cause is excess signal you are receiving,do you use signal boosters as such ?
If you do,this needs bypassing as the excess signal produces similar symptoms to that of a poor or no signal mode !
If not try experimenting with a set-top aerial or piece of wire or wee screwdriver into the aerial socket of your appliance,if this produces an improved signal then the prognosis is what i described in my first paragraph above as such !

Yes you can retune upon your return depending on the dates yer away/back.
But you have to retune (once or twice) regardless of the outcome.
There maybe some or no consequences dependant upon your return whether you experience for example no signal due to excess signal as such or whether you require a new aerial,etc.
It all depends on the consequences after you retune (once or twice) whether everything works out ok,or not ok as such.
Only time will tell ?!

Are you using Bluebell Hill or Dover main transmitter if your aerial is polarised horizontally ?
Did you perform an automatic scan instead of a manual scan as auto scan often picks up incorrect transmissions from neighbouring mast more so in overlap regions ?
In this instance you picked up BBC Look East transmissions from Sudbury on the BBCA multiplex on frequency 44 !
If you know which of the two main transmitters in Kent yer using,delete all your current set up then manually scan all available multiplexes from either Bluebell Hill or Dover mast whichever yer using.
This way you will rid the unwanted BBCA multiplex from Sudbury (fr 44) itself and at your location preferably manual scanning instead of automatic scanning will in future prevent wrong transmissions being received.

Susan.If you decide to replace the aerial then you need a group E brown tipped semi-wideband aerial preferably a Yagi 18E,as well as new copper-copper black coloured co-ax cable and new brass co-ax aerial plug.

Elaine Robinson.Get an engineer or aerial installer to rectify the problem.
If you or a member of your family or friend were to remedy the fault that you stated,then that is a risk to that individual involved which may not be worth taking.
As i indicated in my first paragraph one or the other should only repair this fault as such,not anybody else.Leave the repairs to experienced workmen/workwomen in the field of aerial installing/engineering.
Dont risk your limbs/life as such !

Your friend will have to perform a factory reset procedure if by unplugging the appliance for over two minutes then replugging back in again it still fails to record as such.
Does your friend still have the instructions manual for the Thomson DTI 6300 as such ?
