Hello Brian - is it me being incompetent or my machines' capabilities ? I've no radiation pattern upon the above map. Here's hoping your loved ones are in good shape ! Oh - and you were given a mention on the ATV Ariels Site for your efforts in having Radiation Patterns released from the Govt Department concerned with such things. Regards from just beyond the fringe of mighty Mendip.

sandra: hello Sandra we too have listened to the 95.5 broadcast since the late 1970s - I could hear it at my fathers' in Ashley , New Milton BH25 crystal clear on a huge wireless with vhf and a simple stretch of wire in the 1st floor bedroom . Recently even the Tecsun sensitive set I use struggles to find the now Somerset clone bbc local station with it frequently becoming overpowered by a French broadcast when Topospheric activity arises. Even today when trying to hear how Yeovil Town were doing in their play -off game using our decent car radio the reception was extremely patchy where a few years back was clear and listenable. I fear we're being encouraged to buy newer gear but if you or your aunt and myself can't pick up digital signals or carry internet / mobile phone tech around with us , we're simply stuffed ! The above comments about That's Solent suggests how it shouldn't be called a Service . It clearly isn't providing a news service if all you'd see and hear is a 5 minute headline or two - on repeat every 15 or 20 minutes , something already aped by every ex local commercial radio station ( breeze heart wave Capitol etc ) complete with Clone Music Playlists with the standard backbone of the same 30 tunes from the 70s & 80s- themselves a constant since about 1998 , all probably costing a thousandth of the tv stations' expenditure.
The 70s & 80s pop music thing is - if those same tunes we've all heard thousands of times received the broadcasting payments they're due - whilst being owned by a handful of record companies at most , must at least be one sector of the Broadcast Industry with a constant guaranteed income decade after decade. And many folks no longer actually HEAR this stuff as it's being piped at building sites & shops

Re Rock Music on FM in any format . Just the other day a comment on You Tube during a Punk / Metal Blog from the united states highlighted just how ignored the Heavy Rock / Metal even Punk scene or genre is in English ( at least ) radio. We are no longer living in a country where a few bands form a cult scene as in the late 1970s or early 80s because it's 40 years after the NWOBHM and 50 years after the likes of Sabbath & Zeppelin were getting popular . these acts are influential legends plus the literally hundreds of thousands of Metal bands unknown by many have very large listenership , sell out huge stadiums and sell millions of downloads across the world - because this music is as popular as Jazz , Country , Classic Pop or Classical but apart from Planet Rock ( which in my experience only repeated the big hits by Queen or Metallica or Greenday ) there's not and hasn't been a National station which plays just rock music which appears almost Discriminatory. Scrap Heart bring on Jonesey as in LA .

PS maybe Planet Rock has a more diverse playlist nowaday so well done for your efforts. How these countless generic stations playing the same pop tunes by the same acts from the 80s make any money I'll never know . Rock Music deserves more than just on line accessibility. Why can't they find a frequency to relay the West Regions' News & Weather ? It seems a little odd given its geographical location where the public there live between the two regions and for those living beyond the reach of the respective main transmitters it could at least allow them to see what's occurring not too far away . It's called Public Service after all and if the Salisbury mast used to pick up signals from Mendip in order to relay ch5 , I'm pretty certain a signal could be received from WS. I'd be interested if anyone is interested

It seems unfair for one metropolitan district such as South Hampshire to have a tv station supposedly of local interest when the neighbouring metropolitan district hasn't. So given that there's a comment re lack of or any local content, it doesn't seem so bad that SE Dorsets' 450,000 potential viewers are missing out just as 25 years ago when C5 was beamed to So'ton & Portsmouth whilst even those in the west of the New Forest had little chance of receiving the puny signal from Fawley !
