I have good redemption from a small loft aerial in my bungalow on all Freeview channels but cannot get BBC4 HD. What kind of aerial do I need to get this channel as well as the others?
Thanks

Thanks, Dave Lindsay.
My spell checker turned 'reception' to 'redemption' - I have good reception on all channels but I think I am beyond redemption!
Our current aerial is tiny. About 30cms long with 20 vertical elements of different lengths and no reflector. The signal strength on nearly all channels and certainly the main ones is 8-10 and the signal quality is 10, as shown by the tuner.
Is it possible to get an aerial that does horizontal and vertical at the same time?
Cheers

Dave Lindsay:
Sorry, to answer your question, there is virtually no signal on channel 31, about 1.5 at the most.

Thanks, it's definitely a log periodic aerial. The way it's fixed at present, it would be difficult to turn it the other way. However, without worrying about BBC4 HD very much, I think I'll leave it alone until other programmes start to disappear!
Cheers

The BBC has been pioneering and innovative since its inception. It's website and iPlayer lead the field. I would gladly pay 3 times the license fee to ensure that it stays free from commercial and political pressure. I want to watch TV and listen to radio free from adverts.

Well, it seems the latest announcements show that you will need a TV license to watch the iPlayer. Live TV via any medium will also require the license.
BTW I think the iPlayer knocks the spots off the ITV and Channel 4 players.

The BBC, almost certainly the best broadcaster on the planet, is constrained by its commitment to impartiality and by the fact that is funded entirely by public subscription and the sale of its outstanding products worldwide. It will be easy for a government committed to the commercialisation of every aspect of our lives to destroy the BBC. The broadcaster will not be able to fight back because the government will see that as taking a partisan political stand. As someone who grew up with the BBC, watched the coronation on a 12" black and green CRT tube, listened to the first stereo broadcasts using the TV and radio side by side, watched the first digital channel, struggled with the early iPlayer, I now look and listen through all the latest streaming, recording and downloading devices. I would be prepared to pay double the subscription to save it. I am not prepared to give any money to Rupert Murdoch and the like!

Does this Freeview announcement mean that the new TVs will stop sticking the HD channels at the end of the channel list, starting at 101?,
Will it also mean that local TV news will be broadcast in HD so we do don't have to switch back to the beginning of the channel list just before the announcer says, "and now for the news where you are"?

Watching a couple of hours of TV a day, which is what we like to do, is relatively simple. The problem is CHOICE! There are so many ways of watching TV now, so that if you forget to record a clashing programme you can usually find a way of watching it online. However, venturing online, getting disparate pieces of equipment to interact with each other, and searching for compatible content is getting increasingly complex. The new ITV HUB sounds a great idea but - will my TV find it? My Apple TV? My video recorder? No doubt there will be an App for the iPad as well. And since we still rely on some copper wire and the BT Open Reach cable network ( which is beginning to struggle on occasion) we may just go back to the days of, "What's on telly tonight?"

BBC4 HD has suddenly disappeared! I did a re-tune and it has now disappeared from the channel list - channel 106 is no longer there, today 15/5/14. I only noticed this because I set up a recording that failed. All the other channels including the HD ones are still there. There are no problems reported from my local transmitter, Rowridge. It seems odd that only BBC4 HD is affected. Regular BBC4 is fine. (50.8481,-0.9279)
