Russell Willens: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? The current hot weather conditions are causing TV and radio signals to travel much further than they normally would, resulting in interference from distant transmitters causing reception problems in various parts of the country which may be a factor (although if you've had the same problem for a couple of weeks it is more likely to be a fault somewhere in your aerial system).

George: Your postcode is predicted to have good reception from Angus, Durris and Craigkelly transmitters and there are no plans to build any new terrestrial transmitters for the purposes of providing a different regional news program. BBC Radio Scotland is carried on local commercial multiplexes, with the Edinburgh mux predicted to be available at lower strength at your location than the national stations. Plans are expected to be announced for further expansion of DAB services once a closure date is set for FM/AM radio stations.

Steven Tattum: Are both TVs fed from the same aerial? If the downstairs TV is fine that would suggest that you have a problem with the cable/socket upstairs. Please provide a full postcode so that we can see your predicted coverage for further advice on the missing COM8 channels (BBC Four HD, QVC HD, etc).

David Johnson: The current weather conditions are a possible cause. It's also worth checking for any loose or damaged cables/connections behind your TV. Do not attempt to retune.

MikeP: The BBC actually said that now is not the time to close FM services, they want to wait until a larger proportion of listeners have switched to digital of their own accord. In the long term, FM will close for all but very small commercial and community stations, just not on the previously suggested timescale of 2 years from digital radio reaching 50% (probably more like 5-10 years from now). J sine: Resetting/retuning will never fix a signal problem as the TV was already correctly tuned to begin with. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see your predicted coverage at your location.

alex: Cupar is a lite transmitter serving only around 4,500 homes although you should be receiving around 19 channels rather than 10. The commercial broadcasts do not consider that the cost of broadcasting from lite transmitters to be a worthwhile investment, given that around 80 transmitters currently broadcast 6 multiplexes to approximately 90% of UK households (over 1,000 more are required to reach 98.5% coverage for the PSB muxes).

Steven Tattum: You can't receive Freeview from a satellite dish. If the downstairs TV is using a satellite receiver (either a Sky/Freesat or other generic box or built in satellite tuner) then that has nothing to do with Freeview. You need to examine your setup and check where the cables actually go (as far as you can safely access) and check for any loose connections, damage to the cable etc.
