gemma stone: Judging by prediction you are in a poor reception area as far as getting the Commercial channels goes. Most aerials on your road are seen (pn Streetview, May 2009) to face the Faversham relay transmitter which does not carry Dave and other Commercial services.
Can you confirm that your aerial does NOT point to Faversham (its elements will be vertical [up/down]) at 209 degrees? What direction does it point in and is it horizontal or vertical?

Jon: Confirm that you are tuned to Tacolneston for BBC One, ITV and BBC One HD and not West Runton.
The information is given on the signal strength screen:
BBC One | West Runton = C26 | Tacolneston = C55
ITV | West Runton = C23 | Tacolneston = C59
BBC One HD | West Runton = C29 | Tacolneston = C50
If you find that the channels which you have issues with are tuned to West Runton then run the scan through with the aerial unplugged for the first 30% or until UHF channel 30 so as to have it out for West Runton.

Helen Lee: At just under 9 miles from the transmitter you would be expected to have excellent reception, if not perhaps an excessive signal. There is apparent clear line-of-sight, barring the terrain within the first half a mile from you which may be in the way (or objects such as trees or buildings on it).
I suggest that you might have a signal level which is too high and that you might try reducing it. The effects seen on a receiver whose signal is too high is much the same as that of one too low, making the unwary think that the signal is too low.
Go to the manual tune screen and enter/select UHF channel 25 which is for BBC standard definition TV and radio. Do this but do not press the button to add services/scan as in such circumstances the device usually acts like a basic signal meter. Observe what strength and quality is like over at least 30 seconds or more.
Some devices are better than others at this. Indeed, some don't even bother to offer manual tuning. So you might find that it's worth looking at the different devices you have to see which might be most useful here.

michael: The signal strength is too high. Maybe the amplifier in the Panasonic is pushing it up a little more. It's akin to turning the volume right up on a hifi - the sound distorts.
Remove or reduce any amplification you have if it's for a single aerial socket (one room) or if you don't have one install an attenuator before the Panasonic box to bring the level down.

Lisa Simmons: You could be pushing it to receive it.
If you have manual tuning then use it. Go to the manual tune screen and enter/select UHF channel 56. Don't press the button to scan/add services immediately, rather wait and see if it gives any indication as to strength and quality.

Jane Hopkinson: There are, according to Digital UK, "only" 151 services available on Freeview in the UK. Accepting that perhaps there are others and that the total may be 170. to get 300 you must be receiving some from one transmitter and some from at least another transmitter.
When you say "aerials", are we talking more than one aerial directed to the same transmitter (Bluebell Hill)? Or is there more than one aerial pointing to different transmitters?
If it's the former then there may be no issue, barring loss of COM6 multiplex (which carries Yesterday). This is because signals from other transmitters can be picked up off-beam of the aerial and by the nature these can be intermittent. If it is a requirement that signals be received from another transmitter then an aerial should be installed for it.
