BTW, you may be able to receive all channels directly from Winter Hill. This would require a different aerial.

anthony churchill: Because, as Heinz has said, it only carries PSB (Public Service Broadcaster) channels; the Commercial (COM) channels only broadcast from the larger transmitters. The Commercial broadcasters have no "Public Service" obligation and their primary objective is to generate a profit.
See here for an explanation:

dave: The lack of BBC programmes may have been because the aerial lead was out when it scanned the UHF channel for those services. The availability of manual tuning allows you to add missing channels, where they haven't been picked up during the automatic scan. From Mendip, channels are, in order:
48 - COM4: ITV3, 5USA etc
49 - PSB1: BBC standard definition TV and radio
52 - COM6: Film4, Yesterday, ITV4, 4seven
Perhaps there is only one other thing you can do and that is a factory reset. The thinking here being that there is some remnant left in the tuning memory that is causing this outcome.
Maybe knowledge of the model number would allow us to see if others have reported the same issue on the internet. They may have indicated how they successfully resolved the issue.

Kenny Shand: On the road where the grid reference associated with your posting is a large building that looks as if it might be a block of flats which might mean you are using a communal aerial. Some communal aerial systems will require adjustment in order to allow the new frequency through, the reason being because they are fitted with filters that only allow through frequencies that are used by the transmitter.
If your aerial is fed by a box such as a recorder of description, as a test connect the TV directly to the aerial socket on the wall, so that you know that the box isn't the issue.

Kenny Shand: Once it's been changed, you may be able to add Film4 manually by manually tuning/scanning to UHF channel 49.

Jenny: You need to retune because BBC services have changed frequency.
Knowledge of the make and model number may allow the user manual to be found in order give guidance on retuning.
In general, I would bring up the menu and look for something like "Setup" or "Installation".

Another possibility is to run the automatic tuning scan (first time install, or whatever it's called) with the aerial unplugged. If this successfully wipes what's stored, then use the manual tune function to add the five channels and do it in the order given below:
(My apologies, the channels I gave above are for the Mendip transmitter.)
These are for Winter Hill:
50 - BBC
59 - ITV
58 - ITV3
49 - Pick TV
55 - Film4
By storing them in this order, see if any channels are forgotten, and whether it is still ITV/C4/C5 or whether it is the last one you stored (Film4 etc).

John: Pull the aerial out for the first 50% of the scan with the aim being to miss out scanning of the Welsh channels (from Moel-y-Parc).
If you are missing any of the North West (Winter Hill) ones then manual tuning will allow you to add them if it is available on your device. In order, they are:
49 - ITV3 etc
50 - BBC etc
If you don't have manual tuning then you will have to scan again and this time plug in a bit sooner. If you're too soon then it will have the opportunity to scan C45 and C39 which are BBC Wales and ITV Wales respectively.
Your objective is therefore to get the aerial plugged in once its past 45 and before 48. If you've got manual tuning and you are a little late, you can add the channels manually.
