mr eric townsley: It's a common problem in your part of the world.

Start the automatic tuning scan, with the aerial plugged in. When it gets to 25% unplug it. When it gets to 58% plug it in again and leave it plugged in.

The aim is to have the aerial unplugged when it's scanning the frequencies that you don't want (West Midlands channels) and to have it plugged in when you do (East Midlands).

Velia Glasby: You will need to retune on 28th March when two of the multiplexes change frequencies and their power is increased.

Arqiva A (Pick TV etc) is currently on Ch67 at 26kW and will move to Ch56 at 100kW on 28th March.

Arqiva B (Yesterday etc) is currently on Ch52 at 25.7kW and will stay on Ch52 but will be increased to a power of 100kW.

The other four multiplexes are currently at their full final power of 100kW.

Richard: See this page for an explanation of why transmitters like Aldeburgh don't carry the commercial services:

allison Brown: You need to manually tune to UHF channel 22. This is where the missing channels are carried.

You may need to move your aerial in order for it to become available.

Once you have all the channels stored, don't retune (until switchover) if you get "no signal" or break-up; the remedy is to move the aerial. Retuning in such circumstances just causes more problems.

John Titley: The commercial channels only broadcast from the sites that they wish to. See here for an explanation:

allison: BBC Four is carried on Mux B which is on Ch28. So do the manual tuning thing and select channel 28. Again, you might have to move your aerial for it to become available.

Gordon Cragg: The clue as to where it's coming from will come from your receiver as only it can tell you what it's tuned to!

Go to 808 and then look at the signal strength/quality screen. On there it will tell you what UHF channel number (frequency) it is on. If it's 43, then it's coming from Sutton Coldfield and if it's 26 then it's The Wrekin.

If you prefer to watch West Midlands TV, then you should have your aerial replaced with (or an additional aerial fitted) for a transmitter in the area, possibly Sutton Coldfield.

jb38, Mike: I wondered if the "M&S 1906F001" might be found by dropping the 001 suffix. There is a model made by Murphy: TP-1906F

A manual for this model is here:

Peter Merritt: What was the reason for having your own aerial fitted? Did you get HD with the communal aerial?

You won't get HD services from Hemel Hempstead until switchover on 18th April.

What is the "wavers" you describe? Is this digital television (Freeview)?

What are you using, i.e. set-top box, TV? If it's a set-top box, then how are you connecting it together?

Has this problem started since the new aerial was installed?
