Really to replace Dave Ja Vu on Freeview
Sunday 11 September 2011 11:39PM

Dave is now missing from Freeview on the Tacolneston transmitter.

All other channels on the same mux are available.

This is NOT a signal strength issue.

Retune done several times.

Am technically savvy so it isn't a user problem; it's the transmission (or an unpublished change like the recent BBC Four one) so why is Dave no longer transmitted?

Don't watch TV much but can confirm that Dave is no longer transmitted from Tacolneston since 17.8.11. Several retunes and no result so it's obviously gone.

All other channels on the same mux are OK.

Sorry for the nuisance but have just discovered that the Dave Tacolneston mux is on much reduced power which explains the non availability. (Leaving the channel selected gives the odd breakthrough of signal - before 17.8.11 it was perfect.).

Retuning to Tacolneston went OK but Dave and all channels on that mux have gone, I guess they'll reappear 23.11?

Well, Brian, I can assure they're missing. Not merely No Signal but entirely missing from the (newly) scanned list of channels in the EPG.

I'll try again.

BTW, your answer to Chris Dunlop was spot on!

OK, Brian, I haven't rescanned but have manually tuned RF channels with these results:-
CH STRENGTH % QUALITY %
22 0 - 5 NS - Poor
I think Dave etc is on this so all is explained; previously this channel showed stations in the EPG but bthat was because it was there before 17 Aug when SS was reduced - make sense?
55 66 100
60 12 - 20 40
64 19 - 27 40 - 75
66 12 26
68 pops up for an instant then disappears with NS

Hope this is helpful to you. Can you point me to the Tacolneston RF channel/mux list, please?

ok, found your xmitter RF/mux list.

Odd:-
No CH22 on your list but it's showing here
53 - yes, this is showing at 35 & 100
55 - OK, as prev post
58 - NS
60 - as prev post
61 - NS
64, 66, 68 - as prev post

Given that I should only be getting 5 RF channels and am getting up to 7 then I assume that I am receiving a relay?

Also, you say BBC4 etc is on 58 but this is NS yet these stations are all available & OK.

In summary, the only stations not in the post 9.11.11 EPG are CH61 Dave etc (but these were all OK pre 17.8).

Awaiting comments with interest!

North Walsham

According to this page - Digital UK - Postcode checker - Results for Conifers, Mill Road, Dilham, North Walsham, NR28 9PU - Dave etc is on RF68.

Unable to receive RF68 except very intermittently since 17.8 which is why the 9.11.11 retune dropped it from the EPG.

Which leaves RF66 which is fairly good but is not on your list or the above and 22 ditto albeit that one is virtually NS.

I may have answered my question about Dave etc but still interested in Brian's comments.

Thanks, Brian.

Apart from the glitches mentioned, my plan was to wait until Nov 23 as you say.

Chuck, have you read the notes above re excess signal (do you use an aerial amplifier?) and some boxes not accepting the 8k mode?

Have you tried to tune in manually?

What has happened to your neighbours' reception?

I'm sure Briam will have further thoughts far better than mine.
