Daisy: This sounds like a fault, if you can't get to the menus. There's not much else you can do, other than use a separate Freeview box, as you have done.

Angelo: The boxes are yours, you can sell them to whoever you like.
The purchaser will need a dish pointing at the correct satellites to to use with the boxes.
