Michael: Very true.
In addition, given that eyesight and hearing deteriorates with age, you would have thought the people who could appreciate high definition the most are younger viewers.
The BBC is a universal service: high definition should be provided to all viewers, no matter their age: their parents have to pay to watch the TV, so their children should expect world-class programmes with world-class production standards.

michael: How is it a "con"?
The daytime/night-time split happened whilst the channels were BBC CHOICE and BBC KNOWLEDGE.
The BBC News channel has been fully HD since it moved to New Broadcasting House. You've only been able to see it that way when it was being broadcast on BBC One HD or BBC TWO HD. I can certainly see the difference!
The BBC World news channel has been HD for ages too.

Does anyone know if the Sky HD and Freesat HD channels numbers will be the same as the SD ones for these five channels?
