Fiona Beattie: This doesn't sound like a reception issue. It sounds like you have the multiplex and that there is a problem resolving the one service, RT One on the Humax. At this stage it's a case of trying things to see whether it rectifies the issue.

I wonder if it could be an issue with the multiplex. As discussed elsewhere, a missing or out-of-place character in the stream can cause a problem for some receivers and not others. It would be interesting to know whether other Humax Aura users have the same issue with the NIMM.

What I would do is carry out a retune with the aerial unplugged with the objective being to clear the tuning memory. Once completed no channels should be tuned. Then, do a manual tune on UHF channel 48, the objective to tune in the NIMM only and see if it works. There are four services on the multiplex:

LCN 53: TG4
LCN 54: RT One
LCN 55: RT Two
LCN 729: RT RnaG

"LCN" stands for "logical channel number", the number the service appears on the EPG and the number used from the remote control to watch it.

With the one multiplex tuned in you "should" have the four services listed above. If you can watch and hear RT One then go ahead and tune in the other multiplexes which are UHF channels 27 (BBC standard definition TV and radio), 21 (UTV, C4, C5 etc), 24 (HD channels), 23, 26 and 30.

I said it's a "try and see" sort of thing, or "poke and hope" as my dad would say.

If it works OK with just the NIMM tuned then see if adding the others breaks it or it continues to work.

Whatever your findings, share them here as this may help others with the same issue.

Fiona Beattie: In the above posting, "RT" is to mean "RTE". I typed the the "E" with an acute accent, as it is written, but this website totally drops the character!

Isn't that precisely what interference could do?

In view of the fact that https://restoretv.uk/ have sent postcards to this postcode, I wouldn't delay in requesting the Free Filter to see if this resolves the problem.
Clearly your suggestions can be tried as well.

Chris.SE: It's certainly worth trying a filter to see if it cures the problem. I would have thought that an interfering signal such as mobile would result in lower quality. Fiona, what strength and quality reading does Humax show for the NIMM on C48?

It is difficult to appreciate how it could result in a totally blank screen and no sound on one programme channel carried on the multiplex, while not impacting the others at all. But without exact knowledge as to how it works and therefore whether mobile interference could result in the problem described, I can't be certain. I did describe it as a try it and see sort of thing for this reason.

If fitting a filter does fix the problem then something will have been learned, in that it does appear interference can potentially cause such an effect.

Another thing that has occurred is that the NIMM is DVB-T2. Only one of the main six Freeview multiplexes are DVB-T2, this being PSB3 / BBC B (which carries the HD variants of the five main terrestrial channels).

The main six multiplexes aside, all of the others are specific to a particular area, e.g. those for Local TV, and they are all DVB-T. If I have this right, the NIMM is quite unique in being the only non-main Freeview multiplex to be DVB-T2, particularly as COM7 and COM8 have now gone, which were quasi-national DVB-T2 muxes.

A possible hypothesis, then, could revolve around it being a second DVB-T2 multiplex. During the scan it will be picked up last, and therefore after PSB3 was found. This is a reason why it would be interesting to see if tuning in only the NIMM resolves the issue.

I would like to make a correction to the immediate prior post: "The main six multiplexes aside, all of the others are specific to a particular area, e.g. those for Local TV, and I believe they are all DVB-T."

I think the non-main muxes (except the NIMM) are DVB-T, but I'm not totally certain.

Just this morning I have received a notification on AV Forums of the thread on the Sony HXD and some Pioneer receivers stuck on "Update" yet again:

Sony 870 (and all Sony HXD and some Pioneers) DVD Recorders - No Freeview | Page 35 | AVForums

These receivers are quite old but are still used. An error in the data stream (such as by one of the broadcasters) can result in them locking up and it's happened yet again this morning, judging by the stream of users who have posted today.

Fiona Beattie:

I'm not familiar with your HUmax box, but in its tuning section, does it show things like Signal Strength and Quality (or error) figures for each UHF channel for the various multiplexes?
If so, could you post each of them which would possibly help determine the extent of the problem should you have any issues getting that Free Filter.

Steve Donaldson: I did what you suggested and RTE1 ch 54 is the only one not working. I'm fairly sure it's a Humax aura issue now. My BT you view box picks up all the RTE channels and it's made by Humax! Thanks for the suggestion.

.
I also did manual searches on C48 under DVB-T & DVB-T2 no joy. Signal strength is 62% quality 0% on C48 DVB-T. On C48 DVB-T2 9% strength 0% quality.. C21 100% for both. C27 100% strength 0% quality.C21 100% strength 0% quality. C24 100% for both. C23 100% quality 0% strength. C26 96% strength 0% quality. C30 100% quality 0% strength.

I never received a postcard from restoretv so I'll try them too.
Thanks for the suggestions.
