Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Alexandra Palace (Greater London, England) mast?

No problems on any service. BBC

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

There have been continuing problems with the Alexandra Palace DAB transmitter, with weak signal performance affecting the BBC DAB multiplex for at least the last week.

Does anyone know what's going on and when this is likely to be resolved? It's been ruining the listening of a lot of BBC listeners in London.

Frank Chersky: Can you tell me your location (ie, postcode) and the type of receiver you are using?

Sorry for the delay in responding, as I've been away.

I'm located in Hornsey, North London (N8), fairly close to Alexandra Palace itself. I use a stand-alone Pure PocketDAB 1500, a model I've used for a number of years without any problems.

Frank Chersky: with our aerial pointing to Oxford we used to get channel 'Yesterday'. Since change over it has gone pixated. We now have reception by dish from Alexandra Palace but no Yesterday channel.

R Coulter: Alexandra Palace does not (at the moment) broadcast digital terrestrial TV ("Freeview"). It will do so when the London region switches to digital next June.

Are you confusing this with Crystal Palace which is the main London transmitter which does broadcast Freeview now?

In any case, you will not be using a dish, you will be using an aerial. A dish is used for satellite services.

Why have you stopped using the Oxford transmitter?

There have been continuing problems at Alexandra Palace D.A.B. centre during the past week which is affecting Channels 11D and 12B. In contrast, channel 9a Trial London from Notting Hill seems to have an increase of 6DB.

Peter Sharpe:

I can't find any reports from the BBC about issues with 12B from Alexandra Palace, and trying to find information about faults or maintenance with commercial DAB multiplexes seems to be a big issue these days and I've not spotted any reports that may be of any help.
It's worth remembering that virtually all DAB operates as SFNs when there is more than one transmitter for an ensemble, so issues/maintenance at another nearby transmitter, especially synchronisation issues, can affect the signal you receive which could increase or decrease depending on your exact location.
Whilst remembering that transmitter maintenance could continue for a while, I can only suggest that if the issues continue for a longer period you email Arqiva at radio@arqiva.com

The LG 32 LS57OT 32 TV which is 8 years old has always had tricky reception. Only BBC 1 & 2 and ITV are available. Channel 4 has been lost. A re-tune has not helped. Any ideas?

Maria:

You have posted about your TV problem on the DAB radio transmitter page, but no worries we'll see what advise we can give.

Without a full postcode we can't tell you what your predicted reception should be at your location, however that won't make any immediate different to this particular problem because if you are getting ITV then you should have Ch.4, Ch.5 and a number of others including some HD versions.

I'd guess that your set's memory may need clearing as sometimes things get "confused" and channels are not allocated correctly to the appropriate LCNs. You may also find channels in the 790s/800s.

Unplug the aerial and do an automatic retune, this should clear all previous tuning as nothing should be found. Switch off the set for 15 minutes.
Plug the aerial back in and switch on and carry out an automatic retune, hopefully all channels will now be correctly restored.

If you are still having problems, reply with a full postcode, any details you can about your aerial installation, boosters/splitters etc.
