UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

We have lost several DAB stations in Exeter (Countess Wear). Have not been able to receive the following stations for over 3 weeks:

Absolute R 80s
Absolute Rad 90s
Absolute Radio BFBS
Classic FM
Planet Rock

andy: You do realise that the TV Licence only pays for BBC (and S4C Wales)?

For this reason, the BBC services are provided to all UK homes.

However, the other broadcasters only have to provide their PSB services to all UK homes. These are Channel 4 (and S4C in Wales) , the main ITV (or STV or UTV) and Channel 5.

Everything else is regarded as "commercial" and can be provided to as many, or as few homes as you like.

Freesat is provide for people who only get a limited number of channels from the terrestrial broadcast system: see https://ukfree.tv/comp…pt=3 for the details.

Andy: I'm not surprised your 30 channels break up - your just 2km from the Exeter St Thomas transmitter. If you turn your aerial around to 74 degrees, you should get a full service from Stockland Hill. God helps those who help themselves.

We are having problems receiving Radio 3 on our FM radio while other stations have good reception. We live in Shillingford St George and the direction of our external aerial is 050 degrees.

Peter Barwell:

We need a full postcode to check which transmitter(s) you may be receiving and whether the BBC are reporting any faults.

Peter:

How are you receiving DAB - on a portable set or a tuner using an external aerial. If the latter have yoiu checked your aerial is still intact (and pointing correctly if directional)?
If it's a portable set, try a full reset and retuine.
If you are near Exeter, none of the transmitters you may receive (Exeter, Beacon Hill or Stockland Hill) are reporting any faults in the last 5 days.
If you are not near Exeter, please provide a full postcode.

I live in Kenton and have terrible DAB reception using an internal aerial on my Marantz hifi receiver. The reception maps for both Exeter St Thomas and Holcombe Down transmitters both show no DAB transmitter signal in Kenton. Is there any way round this? Might a 5 pole external antenna work?

Cliff Tubb:

According to various checkers, Exeter St. Thomas could be somewhat tricky, but you should be able to get at least fair, if not good reception from Holcombe Down (to the south of you) or Budleigh Salterton (to the east of you) or Stockland Hill (to the northeast of you).
Only the main BBC National multiplex Block 12B: 225.648 MHz and
the Local Devon multiplex Block 11C: 220.352 MHz are likely to be available.

Have you tried repositioning your internal aerial so it has the clearest line of sight in those directions? i.e. no thick walls, large metal objects such as fridges/freezers etc., partition walls with foil linings, and so on.
