Summary: Its author, Silver Voices, together with its fellow Broadcast 2040 coalition partners, are calling on the UK government to listen to TV viewers and radio listeners and act now to protect broadcast services beyond the current commitment of 2030s. 74 of respondents believe that the partial or total removal of broadcast services in the future risks leaving behind significant portions of the population, with 46 concerned about the potential impact of digital-only services on their broadband bills. - www.rapidtvnews.com

The alternative is to be signed up to a "Pay for" cable service.
Once cannot but wonder if that is the real reason for the broadcast being turned off.
How many "Brown envelopes" have passed hands ??
If the Broadcast is turned off then it should be the end of TV Licences as there will be no "Broadcast" to be watching.
They can't have it both ways - well, at least they should not be able to do so.

Mike Startup:

There is no "given" that Broadcast will be turned off at all. In fact precisely because of groups like that and others, it's very unlikely. The current large number of channels over the air may be reduced to PSBs when all other services are available by streaming - over a broadband connection - which everyone will have over the next few years, if initially to only provide the VoIP telephone service replacing copper wire landlines. Also, broadband costs, in relative terms, will come down. So you don't need to "pay for a cable service".
